kipper64
"7 Bit Arcade @7bitarcade "We're working on a bill now for @Sonisphere UK... hoping to announce before Christmas" - Stuart Galbraith #festivalawards" Quote from the festival awards happening in London tonight. Stuart was part of one of the panels aimed around the tough year lots of festivals had this year. Anyways shows it's still being worked on - and potentially news soon - for anyone who has already written it off.

kipper64
I think if they are aiming to announce before xmas, they must have bands booked though. I mean you don't put a bill together in the space of a few weeks.
lharris92
but if the bands they have aren't getting other bands convinced to sign up then surely its fighting a losing battle? the way that was worded implies to me that they organised other legs of the tour first which put the uk leg at a disadvantage. its main competitor already has a fair few bands announced, with more probably on the way this side of xmas as well... wonder if anyone big has turned them down due to what happened this year. kipper64
They were lined up to play soni France though which was true and had been booked since 2011.
Justiceforcedave
Signing on for Soni UK probably also involved deals for some of the other Soni legs.
mrtourette
i think Soni's problem (or one of them) has been not being able to lock bands into the UK leg as part of a block booking. A number of decent bands appear to play some of the European ones but then do Download in the UK, if they could play hardball and try and tie bands down as Soni exclusives they'd be much better off. kipper64
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/20586018 Also thats timing more than anything though. The Sonis closer to DL tend to have bands doing earlier festivals and the ones that do Soni UK tend to be bands touring a bit later. They do manage to sign some up for most/all ofthe tour but it just depends on scheduling - unless they moved the UK event closer to DL? biffoire
If they announce a relatively strong headliner such as RATM then I can imagine them selling enough tickets to generate interest
Dan R
Rage have toured the hell out of their reunion and would need new material (which isn't coming) to be considered a relatively strong headliner. They might sell some tickets off the XX anniversary but that'd be a boring booking. Money for old rope. But yeah, will be interesting to see who gets announced. biffoire
i wouldnt say theyve toured the hell out of the reunion, they did 3 uk shows in 2008, and 2 in 2010. I was more just saying a band about the same size as them aka a big name thats a bit more feasable that ac/dc.
mrtourette
Rage would be a reasonable draw due to the scarcity of shows, certainly wouldn't headline the likes of R&L and T as they did with their reunion buzz but might be a solid but unspectacular option for Soni. If it's the best they can come up with or what they'd be putting all their hopes on then they'd be in a pretty bad place.
Dan R
I reckon they need to go for 3 solid headliners and spread the quiality/money throughout the entire bill though. Another headliner the size of RATM (cant think who else atm) and maybe bumping up a new band like they did 2011 would make a solid line-up. Just struggling to think of bands they can feasably do that with.

she bangs the drums
Its now made the BBC website! http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/20586018 The organisers of Sonisphere say the rock festival will be back in 2013. The event, which was due to take place at Knebworth Park, Stevenage in July, was called off in March. Stuart Galbraith, CEO of Kilimanjaro Live, said: "We're working on a bill now, hopefully to announce before Christmas. Cancelling it last year was a hiccup." Speaking at the UK Festival Conference, Galbraith admitted that they spent too long working on the bill for 2012. Announcing their line-up in February was "too late", he added. A statement from organisers released in March said they'd fought hard to keep the festival on but that "a very challenging year" meant the event wouldn't have satisfied fans and the artists. Adam Lambert was due to headline on Saturday with members of Queen. Evanescence, Marilyn Manson, Cypress Hill, The Blackout and Faith No More were also on the line-up. Ticket holders were given a refund. Sonisphere also tours throughout Europe; the festival has already confirmed it will visit Italy and France in 2013. she bangs the drums
It would appear that many T in the Park regulars are very disappointed with the announcement of Rihanna and Mumford & Sons. Sonisphere should stick to the same weekend as TITP and strike well the iron is hot before Xmas with bands such as Pearl Jam and Rage, that would get them back on track. devilman
Soni and T never really shared many acts. The Darkness and Mastodon this year but the Soni called off and so did Mastodon. T is ultimately part of the same group of companies as Download so cozy bedfellows they weren't. Shame because it could have worked well.
