AR93
I can't see SOAD playing, would have thought Serj will be touring with his solo project and maybe playing Slipknot day at DL? Linkin Park, whether you like their new stuff or not, would probably shift tickets as long as there were two strong other headliners. I reckon Soni could get away with booking one of KISS or FNM again for 2013 but as long as like I say, there are two strong other headliners. Just saw that Tom from RATM has said it's hard to get the band to tour cause they have to agree on it so it's looking unlikelier that they will be touring next year. I have a feeling PJ will play, but not a clue who else will
Justiceforcedave
Isn't that proving Neil's point tho, you wanted a tix as Pearl Jam were expected to be added but then changed your mind when they weren't so headliners do shift the bulk of the tixs? Justiceforcedave
it's important to get the right balance but the primary thing is the ability to shift tickets. After all, if the headliners are not shifting your tickets, the undercard is not going to shift the tickets either. They, by definition, are lesser draws than the headliner. A fest can get away with one weaker headliner of the three, but only in certain circumstances - such as were there's enough confidence in the other two headliners to shift enough weekend tickets to make up for the shortfall caused by that we4aker headliner. But that's not any situation that Soni is in. It does not have the rep to have the sway to do that, particularly after having to cancel this year. Weak will just be seen as weak in Soni's case and will dissuade people from going at all, rather than encourage people to buy weekend tickets which also take in that weaker band. eFestivals
It could also be argued (hypothetically) that KISS (and the rest of the festival) could have been a bigger draw if they had a full (and decent) day underneath them. I was happy for buy a weekend ticket for Soni last year but there is no way I'd have paid £75 quid for friday alone! oh, that'll work with some people, the more balanced and experienced punters. But for most it's all about the eye-catching headline name or names. (that's not a situation I approve of btw, it's just my recognition of the reality). Justiceforcedave
I take your point. Maybe the Skid Row reunion or Motley Crue or whoever the hell it was supposed to be was ment to help with the pull? Fell on it's arse though! AcademicPistol
Joking aside, they are. I just think bands like them and bullet being considered for rock festivals is laughable when they've gone so poppy.
eFestivals
I take your point. Maybe the Skid Row reunion or Motley Crue or whoever the hell it was supposed to be was ment to help with the pull? Fell on it's arse though! I'd say it's risky territory. Acts like that is filler for the kids, and the older ones who might be specifically attracted by them are getting less and less likely to want to do a festival as the years go by. With the more credible acts - say Sabbath - it works, because the kids listen to Sabbath. But do they listen to Skid Row or Motley Crue, or even Kiss? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd say not really. thejimbola
But more to the point LP and SOAD at Download 2011 says more viable festival headliners and certainly more solid than Kiss and (not) Queen.
zahidf
Its tough with metal festivals in this country. I say unless you have Linkin Park, Iron maiden, Sabbath or Metallica, you should probably not bother really. Ac/Dc as well, but they rarely play festivals. Maybe Rammstein, but i don't know how well they did at sonisphere that year.
she bangs the drums
The difference is that Download 2011 had the alternatives of Pendulum, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie as second stage headliners. These 3 would have attracted a lot of people too. There is no alternative at Soni.
Black_Crow
Didn't Eddie Vedder pull the plug on a European tour next year. Either way I think Soundgarden will be here again in the Summer. Where Kiss are concerned, they haven't done a UK festival in 5 years, that's a big pull on it's own. They rarely tour the UK and have released one of their best albums in a long time recently. They might not be trendy, but the spectacle of the stage show more than makes up for that. A bit like Rammstein, people may not like the music, but they will watch them purely for the show. I said it before, but they weren't the problem this year, they don't have the pull for the main headliner, but would look strong next to 2 bigger acts like Sabbath/Metallica and RATM/SOAD etc.

Justiceforcedave
KISS just announced a world tour which is suspiciously missing a UK date.
