One big announcement before the new year isn't bad PR. Christmas is over hyped.

I don't think you're realising just how much of the UK will be in its own little xmas bubble before the end of this week.

No amount of saying 'xmas is overhyped' is going to avoid that problem.

A significantly sizeable number of people won't get to hear about it if announced this week, and when they might hear about it afterwards it's more likely to be in a way that is less likely to have them open their wallets and buy a ticket, because it won't be the latest 'exciting' news by then. It'll be the new thing (whatever that might be) that's grabbing people's attention and being talked about, and not an old-by-then thing.

That's not saying that plenty won't get to hear of it, but it'll still lose a sizeable chunk for the impact they'd be wanting at best.

They'll have also missed the boat for anyone thinking about buying tickets as xmas presents (not sure how many actually do but it's still there for consideration). I really can't see Soni going ahead in the UK again next year, but I'll happily be proven wrong.

Real XS Manchester formally Rock Radio. Girlfriend said it was on radio and there is an announcement this week. ACDC were mentioned. I don't know any other details. Rock am are announcing a new headliner tomorrow I read... could be part of ACDC tour. No idea.

Seeing as though Kiss failed to help the lineup sell out this year, they'd probably be a weak headliner.

Soundgarden failed to sell out Hyde Park EVEN when tickets went down to a mere £28... So they'd be quite weak too :/

In all fairness, I would love that lineup - three truly great headline worthy bands but you've got to ask yourself the question; is it good enough to sell it out or even well enough for the festival to survive?

Whos headlining the other 2 days. You only have 1 headline act there.

ACDC, Pearl jam and Rage might have a chance of competing against DL. But the undercard would need to be good.

It's not true, they are just tryng to get hits.

The organiser of Sonisphere FRance said in an interview the other day that AC/DC or Led Zeppelin would be a dream headliner in the future. That to me is a pretty conclusive, it's not happening

I think its because of the leak that they were playing download then Andy said they couldnt due to being available on different dates

It'll be interesting to see who gets announced with ACDC and PJ out of the question. Too soon for metallica and Maiden, Slipknot and Ram all doing DL.

Rage, Aerosmith, LP, Tool are all I can think of. GNR would a huge risk. Do people think Deep Purple are big enough to headline (and shift tickets)?

I have trouble believing that they could shift 10,000 tickets.

So it's safe to say they would go down well with the DP fans of the past.

In fact haven't they toured in recent-ish years (so maybe as much as 15 ago) with some random as singer?

There was a time I'd have paid a fortune to see them. Now I just think meh.
