which only goers to show again that there's just not enough bands to go around two rock/metal fests.

And as i've always said, there's not even enough for one 3 day fest - because otherwise there wouldn't be Metallica on constant repeat.

you could argue that, but wasnt download first? soni just came along and diluted the gene pool, so we end up with 2 mediocre fests, instead of one great one. i wouldnt mind too much if DL died and soni was on its own. Ive said it a squillion times, just as Neil said above - there aint enough big draw/big name "heavy" bands around.

I've said in the past that I prefer DL, but thats mainly because its nearer to me, has been going longer, and I dont like the stupid stage setup at soni, but a solid lineup at either festival is fine by me.

I'd like it to be Soni as I loathe Andy Copping and Soni generally seems like somewhere I'm more likely to go. I can't imagine ever wanting to go to Download no matter what the line-up is but I can with Soni.

Stage setup aside, I like Soni's layout better.

It'd take a hell of a lineup to get me back to either though, and by that I mean Tool.

Fall from grace coupled with so many deluded fans believing it's still a big deal that you can't really feel sorry for them. Soni is basically Leeds United.

I think my original question was a fair bit misunderstood, but even if they have lied about having bands booked, timing regardless, it makes 0 difference, its not going to equal ticket sales unless they end up having bands to announce or those bands are any good - hence i see no gain from lying.

Hellfest are announcing on 4th of december, iron maiden and sabbath are seemingly dead certs for it

Seeing as the Download headliners are an all-American affair (how dull) If I were Soni I'd capitalise and get Maiden and Sabbath !!

Sabbath would definitely get us there! We're also based close to Donington, but nothing announced at DL so far appeals.

I saw them in Estonia again last week. If you ignore THAT song and the cheesy self indulgent drum solo by Kottak, they are really good. I'd watch them above a lot of the shite around just now.

It is happening - doubt they would announce anything if they weren't 100% after the last 2 years. It is actually Sonisphere - it's not flying under any other banner.

Yes they announced an announcement which one can only presume will be about bands and therefore my previous point still stands. They wouldn't initiate anything unless they thought they had something worth doing.
