due to the fact that i am an old bastard and cant camp anymore cos im too delicate, i'm staying in a hotel in nottingham for the three nights of the festival.

is there any rock pubs/clubs we can go to after the festival finishes each night??(cos 10 hours drinking in the festival is never enough,ha ha)

Not sure even Rock City is that great for a Downloader, prob okay on a Sat (Ain't been in ages) but the Thurs is just another Ocean / Oceana. The Downstairs is quite alternative but very emo / screamo... I love it but can't say many Download type bands are played down there.

I'm sure there are some alternative nights on though just can't think of them... Pit & Pendulum might have something on but not sure how late its open too.

I get tons of emails / facebook posts about this though so will post anything that comes up. I'm sure theres more then I'm thinking of.

I stop in a hotel too, there are a few bars that are open well late, my mate didn't come back till 5.00am one year!! Full of festival goers too so it's a good craic, they are in the vacinity of the train station - can't be more specific I'm afraid as I'm usually slightly intoxicated by this point!! xD:sarcastic:

Actually calling me stupid is far more offensive (to the brainless idiots who walk around Britain searching for things to be offended by personally or on behalf of people they don't even know). Ban me if it gives you a wee power trip but I'm afraid that gay no longer has anything to do with homosexuals to half the population of Britain, probably most of the ones younger than you. Much like it had nothing to do with them before they hijacked the word. Language moves on. Obviously if any body is small minded enough to have taken offence at my comments I apologize. In a banter kind of way my intentions were to take the mickey out of people too soft, crap, uncommitted, tied to the apron strings, and downright rubbish to embrace the full festival experience by camping on site.

if you were able to engage your brain, you'd realise how it was that 'gay' came to be used in that way, and how its use in that way has a role in the continued portrayal with the idea that there's something wrong with being homosexual.

It might be acceptable to use in the playground where there's limited ability to join up things into coherent streams, but this is not the playground. Grow up, or get out of here.

Thanks for your opinion. I strongly disagree. Your childish insults that you use with assumed impunity are far worse. I hope you are coming to the download meet so we can discuss this further. I'll even give you a big sloppy hug and kiss to show I have no beef with homosexuals.

language changes

it does - but nothing is able to remove the fact that 'gay' came to be used in that way as an insult to homosexuals, and that via its use a bad portrayal is made of homosexuals via which discrimination comes.

You might choose to not accept those truths as the truths that they are. That is your problem and not mine.

My problem comes when you use homophobic language on this website. You might be happy to use homophobic language or too stupid to realise that it is homophobic language, but whichever of those things applies with you doesn't alter the fact that homophobic language like that is not permitted here.

Oh dear, this seems to have move on a bit from where to go for a post-festival piss-up in Nottingham

EDIT: Incidentally, all of the hotels in travelling distance are fully booked with Downloaders, so there are a lot of us who are too . . . . . errrrr . . . . too . . . . err . . . wimpy.

Using gay as a perjorative is homophobic, people often don't mean it like that, often thinking of it as 'just a word', but using a description for a group of people as a perjorative is being offensive to those people, as it imples that something is wrong with being like that - in this case 'gay'.

I don't bother correcting everyone who uses it as such, but the simple fact is it's homophobic in origins, and using the term insultingly carries the connotation that you shouldn't be gay.

I disagree with it being homophobic in its origins as it used to be used as a term for being happy or joyful and would commonly be used in everyday language, hell theres even a dance called the gay gordons but I agree it has been changed into a different meaning

but aye, how did this get changed from a Nottingham afterparty

the origins of 'gay' being used to denote a bad thing is without doubt homophobic.

I will join it taking the thread off topic, when did gay start meaning homosexual?

I remember watching Flintstones repeats as a kiddie and they use to have "a gay old time" in the theme tune and that was the 60's so was gay used in those days but as homosexuality wasn't so open then it was less associated or did it become associated afterwards? I would look it up but I'm on my work computer and it's blocking everything.
