Radio 1 Tent Announcement BBC

The Hives and Graham Coxon would be worth seeing. Was hoping for someone like Super Furry Animals or Fun Lovin' Criminals higher up but still quite a strong NME.

Still doesn't stop this year line-up from being the weakest in years though.

I'm disappointed in this line-up, all the NME bands are just... well, NME bands, the sort of small, little-known indie bands you get in the pages of that magazine, and nothing else. I wouldn't mind a little bit of it, but would it hurt to inject some older stuff and bit of pop? Lana Del Rey, Little Boots, Marina & The Diamonds would all have been great bookings and shifted more tickets than most of these bands, you can have acts from the pop charts in your line-up without selling out and still keeping it the same festival. I'm regretting buying a ticket for Leeds this year, the line-up is pretty crap, the saving grace is UK exclusives for The Cure and At The Drive-In, no way I would have gone without either of these two.

I think they have injected some pop in Santigold, and with the Sonisphere bands being announced could it not be that Mastodon have replaced Nofx? other smaller 'hotly tipped' nme type bands like Alabama Shakes and niki and the dove have been moved to Festival Republic stage or dropped, for say the blackout and potentially the hives to be sloted in?

They aren't really a Soni act, they played R&L last year. There may have been movement to put in these heavier/older acts to counter a backlash to the original announcement, but it could be just as likely that they were always there and they only announced the newer acts as well as the dance stage instead of the entire NME/R1 tent in order for the original announcement to appeal to the younger end of the target market and always planned to save the likes of Mastodon, Graham Coxon and Mark Lanegan for the second wave.

The original announcement was already heavy with NME indiepopdance, they needed acts like Mastodon, The Hives, Graham Coxon, Mark Lanegan and The Joy Formidable (hell even The Blackout) to bring some balance to the line-up. It may be too little too late in the eyes of the ticket-buying public but it's a good varied announcement as it also includes some poppier stuff (Santigold, Chiddy Bang) and some up-and-coming indie-schmidie (Tribes, Spector, Howler).

I also agree that Lana Del Rey and Marina are just as much NME acts as TDCC, The Maccabees or anyone else in that tent, they're all over the NME site on a regular basis.
