As a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, Latin and country;nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks.

If we're gonna fill the entire NME stage with acts like Marina, Little Boots and Lana then why not throw in The Saturdays and Girls Aloud as well.

There's a bit of room for pop at R&L, but that's not what sells the tickets, and comparing bands like Foos and Arctics to the bands listed above purely on the grounds that they're popular is ludicrous.

The acts you wanted didn't make it on to the line up this year. I'm sure we could all list a number of bands that we'd love to have seen on the line up but we didn't. There are still a few pop acts on the bill (and I'm sure we'll see a few more appear soon), but if there's not enough for your liking then I'd seriously suggest going somewhere like V where those kinds of artists have a bigger presence.

It has nothing to do with arrogance.

There are a few pop acts on the line up, you're asking for more. I'm giving an explanation as to why I don't think that they would have wanted to book more. I have no issue when any of the artists you've named, but I'm not particularly fussed by their absence from the line up. In fact I'd say that the balance on the NME stage this year is brilliant.

They are typical bookings because they have those sort of acts playing more or less every year, not alot but every year. Going back to late 90s when the artists like beth orton played.
