How I check to see if it's pop music or not is to ask my teenage sister if she likes it and if she does I throw the cd away in the bin whilst shouting metal rulz!!!

I like to scream rape and/or danger until "pop" song has been finished or been turned off and continue to point and scream if the cd/album cover is in sight. Girlfriend doesn't like it for some reason, especially when in car when windows are down. Childish I know but I hate jls that much I can't help myself

My fav definition of pop:

music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.

But I'd stick to:

any genre of music having wide appeal (but usually only for a short time)

The entire album 'The Hunter' is quite excellent, and the easiest on the ears i'd say. From that you'll want to check out Blood Mountain, an equally strong album. And if you're into Prog epics get Crack the Skye, but that's definitely an acquired taste. Takes a few listens, but well worth it.
