Gingo
I've seen Angelo & ingrosso before and they were mixing live. A few years ago mind. Eric prydz mixed live too. Really don't like most dance music anymore. Probably since I met my wife and cleaned my act up haha
jonodillieono
I think it's the difference between a "dj set" and a "live set" by a DJ. What Nero did there was a DJ set probably whereas when they play live they actually do mixing (I hope) but very few dubstep artists actually do mix, cough Skrillex. Joe-
I don't see the difference between this and holograms of Nirvana & Tupac which people on here were going on about how great it would be a few weeks ago.
alex28
i recall listening to Zane Lowe on Radio 1 about a year ago i think and he announced that a major DJ was doing this but he wasn't allowed to identify who it iwas. At the end of the day it's so easy for Dj's to do as you wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless told which is why I don't see DJs live as it is like listening to a CD. It's an absolute disgrace but unfortunatley does happen.
cheeseisamazing
I've also seen local bands doing it, pre recording to give a fuller sound, I just think its a little short changing people. Why not get additional members to play the instruments live?
kev1664
i don't think its bad if they do it to create a thicker sound, they're still playing live, i mean you could suggest its cheating in one sense but they're still playing live- still adding to the music i don't understand? are they making a fuller sound, lip sinking or something differnt? Gingo
I dunno, I just find it half assed, id rather see someone playing the sounds i can hear, it just seems that some band either arnt good enough to play well live or they are trying to dupe the audience. On linkin park, it was basically taking it from their download interview. Basically they need to be able to program their equipment to add some of the sounds that they can't play live with the instruments, effectively bringing in sound that they are not playing. How far the go with that is anyone's guess.
kev1664
That then brings in the dilemma of whether they would be shortchanging fans by not making the songs sound like they do on the album, if this is as far as they go just by adding a few extra effects I think it is fine as there is still clearly some live performance going on through singing and basic instrument playing the problem comes when someone is standing on stage getting money for pressing play
calsmith182
i recently attended nero's tour, is it this tour that they have been using cds/etc? at the sheffield gig, im pretty sure they were playing live and not using these, i cant be sure, but the songs were most remixes of their songs and not the album songs, but im aware that a lot of dj's do this live
thetime
They could play a stripped back version live. Personally I don't like my bands to sound as the do on record, I want something different live, change the intros, solos. Make it different and enjoyable I don't want to be paying through the nose to see a band play a set of songs identicle to the album, which I could achieve by listening to at home. LondonTom
The Tupac one was actually used like a puppet - in that it was manipulated live and so could react to the other people on stage or audience - there's an actual person there live making those actions and sounds - so perhaps technically that Tupac 'hologram' is actually more live than 'insert T4 favourite boy/girl pop-band' - who lip sync and move in a set pattern every show. lightning1000
Daft punk play live. However the light show is pre programmed so they needed to play the same set list. If anything more skill was needed to keep the music in synch with a very rigid light show.
