Saw them at the M.E.N. on that tour (I think)

Fucking outstanding, amazing gig.

Loved how they did about 45 minutes of hip hop, then about 30 minutes of instrumental, and then it went dark and this Video came on the screens of fans being asked what beastie boys song they most wanted to hear. All these incredible tunes kept being named, then they came on stage and smashed out every one of them.

total riot

To the best of my knowledge 2004 was the only arena tour they've done here since '99 - I saw them at Brixton in 2007, but as I travelled down to that from Blackpool I can only assume they didn't do any northern dates.

I listened to that MEN show on the radio in anticipation of the Wembley arena show the night after, and then was up until god knows when making a CD of the recording for the drive down from Norwich.

Thinking back, it was a show from that '99 tour (Glasgow maybe?) that really got me into them. I listened to the tape recorded off radio one I don't know how many times... 3 MCs & 1 DJ, a mix master mike solo, intergalactic & sabotage to finish... just brilliant.

*sigh* Im genuinely bummed out. I think this is the first of my musical heroes to have died after I've become a fan :(

i'm heartbroken by this news. i had an inkling he wasn't well as he didn't turn up for the Rock N Roll hall of fame thing last month but still...

they were my favourite band. i've been listening for nearly two decades. one memory stands out, June 1994, Ill Communication and Sabotage were everywhere, and the 16 year old me went to my first Glastonbury and saw the Beasties rock the other stage. it was a baking hot weekend and during their set it rained some very welcome rain - the only time in all my years at G that i have seen the rain cheered! they rode their skateboards around the stage, and i thought then as i still do that they were some of the coolest mutherf*ckers on the planet.

check out this clip from the VMAs. Yauch, as he regularly did, using his fame-given platform to try and make things just a little bit better. skip to 6:34..

what a juxtaposition in amongst the sea of self congratulatory w*nkers these events usually present us with.

Thanks, Adam.
