willutalk
I've really lost my way around the sub genres of dance music. I like D n B and Tecno I dislike house and Dub Step.
Mr. Cowbell
I've really lost my way around the sub genres of dance music. I like D n B and Tecno I dislike house and Dub Step. You do know that Techno came from House music don't you? And that Drum & Bass came from House music also? And that every other genre electronic music that you hear today all came from House music? eFestivals
And that every other genre electronic music that you hear today all came from House music? not true. There's plenty of electronic music that pre-dates house. Kraftwerk, for example. New Order. Etc, etc, etc.
Mr. Cowbell
I knew a smart-arse like yourself would bring that up, therefore that's why I wrote it like this: And that every other genre electronic music that you hear today all came from House music? Mr. Cowbell
I should have actually stated it as Dance music not Electronic music, schoolboy error right there to be fair.

zero000
I'm not sure if this is technically house music (I'm shit with my genres!) but I really like this tune:
fatyeti24
House started back there in 1978? i have some mixes that claim to be Frankie Knuckles at the Warehouse in 77, 81 & 82. i found them online. poor sound quality as you'd expect, and i cannot vouch for their authenticity, but all the bits we recognise today as house are there. i did briefly shake hands with the man himself about ten years ago, which still makes me a bit giddy. BlackHole2006
Went to this record store and asked them if they knew any good house albums, and this guy gave me this one. Dan Snaith when he's not doing Caribou apparently. The rest of this album is a bit too hipsterish for me but this track is great. http://youtu.be/VthM5XyB5kI BTW Apart from this page, anyone know any good house compilation CD's or albums? Mainly Funky and Progressive house please. Cheers in advance.

Nice one mate. That albums not bad or anything but it's just a little bit too different for my liking, not that there's anything wrong with difference. I suppose you've got to be in the right mood for that kind of thing to really appreciate it. I love Soundcloud, I use it to upload my songs but don't really use it to browse for music so I'll start doing that, cheers for the tip! In my twenties, 1988, I remember escorting a young Texan lady to Spectrum at heaven on a Monday night, and it so happened that one Frankie Knuckles was playing. Found our way up on to the balcony right next to the three turntables, watching the dance floor explode. That memory stays.
