thetime
Just seems like double standards. They wouldn't dick Man U about like this. Still, I'd rather be in the Europa League than not, but it means we kinda have to write off the game against Chelski.

The Nal
Interesting letter to Stan Kroenke from Arsenal investors. Question - How long before Wenger heads for the hills with working under these restrictions?
eFestivals
Interesting letter to Stan Kroenkefrom Arsenal investors. Question - How long before Wenger heads for the hills with working under these restrictions? Hmmmm .... given that Usmanov is pissed off that Kronke is the owner and not him, I'd say it's more about trying to create pressure on Kronke to leave than anything else. If Usmanov cared about success for the club as much as he's claiming, there's nothing to stop him handing over a big pile of cash to the club and telling them it can only be spent on players - and i'm sure the club would bite his hand off. Now, you might say that that would be stupid of him because he gets nothing in return for that cash, but that's ultimately no different to him being the owner of the club and running it at a loss with him personally subsidising it - which is precisely the sort of situation he's suggesting should happen in that letter. So it's all about greed & control, and nowt to do with retaining players. I don't think anything about the financial 'restrictions' concerns Wenger. He's a smart guy, smart enough to realise that football is ultimately fucked if working via debt - and he's shown over the years that he's able to see the big picture along with wanting personal success. It's not like he's Redknapp with a clearly stated mercenary position of screwing everything out of a club for his own personal benefit and gratification. Steve P
Very disappointed with RVP. Not so much that he's decided to leave, but the way he's done it with this statement. The rubbish in his statement about "My goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days", well the best way to do that isn't to leave. The club has supported him through his numerous injuries, he's finally had one injury free season and now he's offski. I really did hope for more from him. I get that he's getting on a bit in football terms and without a doubt would have a better chance of trophies by moving to City. If he wants one last big pay day then fine. Don't try and con the fans though that you don't really want to go. The usual "i'll always be a Gunner" guff. As I said I really hoped he'd show a bit more loyalty, but then there is very little loyalty in any areas of life these days. No point in holding on to him, we should should just get rid. What must happen is the cash is reinvested and fast. The board have a lot of questions to answer over how all these contracts are being allowed to run down this far, but realeasing all the money will go some way to quieting those critics down. eFestivals
blimey .... goal line technology is approved - both systems - and could be being used in the prem by mid-season. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18719396

kaosmark2
Sure Chelsea played twice in 3 days and so did we last season (yes we do count as a big name ). Both of those instances could have been moved but for TV and/or sponsors being unhappy and unhelpful. That's the price football pays though for selling its soul to the devil. thetime
That's the thing though, our request was sent before any TV/sponsorship thing was arranged. OK the Chelski game is now televised, but it wasn't TV companies being stubborn. It was the Premier League, Met Police and UEFA. The money has no reason to object. kaosmark2
What I find strange about this one is theres no reason why its on the saturday. I could understand it chelsea were playing on the tuesday as the cl should have preference over the europa league, but chelsea wont need to qualify and suprised sky didnt pick up that game rather than espn. Ed209
Supposedly the Met Police told the Prem it'd make it difficult for them if it were on the Sunday with other events then. No idea what the other events are though. And the League didn't try and plead our case at all.
kaosmark2
Notting Hill Carnival is on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th August Think that's fairly understandable from their point of view. Huge operation, and in West London to boot.
