Hes one of those players who gets himself into a frenzy for every game. He wouldn't be the player he was if it wasn't for that madness. Totally understand and respect that. But he needs to reel it back a bit.

Hes let down a lot of LFC fans with this one who backed him over the last couple of years. Especially over the whole Evra thing which now is becoming a lot more difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt about. A lot of people have fallen off the fence in the last week about that one.

Three FA bans in 18 months. Not sure I've seen that before.

I'm not. He deserves to be punished, he can be a total cock on the pitch don't get me wrong. But I would prefer him to stay at LFC and in the Premier League, the league would be worse off without him. You said it yourself that punishment doesn't seem to work, so maybe something else is needed also.

I was at that game where Thatcher assulted Mendes. At the time it wasnt obvious what had happend other than it was very naughty. I honestly thought he was dead, the reaction of Glenn Johnson, the medical staff and other players / managers painted a very grim picture and the rest of the team were clearly distressed.

As for Surez, he needs to keep his head down for a while.

My view on Suarez, while the ban is incredibly harsh its his own fault for putting himself into a postion where the FA could give him a harsh punishment. He should have known that whatever was his next misdemeanor he would have the book thrown at him and if he didn't someone in the club should have told him.

I hope this is the start of the FA coming down harder on ALL violent conduct but I doubt it. A disciplinary system where defoe gets a 0 match ban and Suarez gets A 10 match ban for the same incident can never be defended. If the referee had seen the incident and given a red card, would that have effected the punishment? I have heard different opinions about this. This silly concept of punishing players differently depending on whether a referee sees an incident or not is ridiculous and must change. The officials are there to look after the game while disciplinary action against violent conduct should be treated completely separate. The current system allows a player to benefit if officials are inept by both keeping them on the pitch and making them immune to punishment. Consistency is what most football fans want and when it comes to violent conduct, similar incidents should be punished in similar ways.

I would also like the FA to come up with some kind of tarrif related to violent conduct. It often feels like numbers are plucked out of the air and the fact is fans and pundits were guessing all different bans shows how unclear the current system is. I would like a punch in the face, elbow, 2 footed challenge , bite etc all be linked to a certain punishment to take the confusion away. I know there will always be incidents that don't fit but a bit of guidance surely couldn't do harm.

I don't think it is harsh at all. If he was a player with no history then yes it would be, but he is not. He has a blatant disregard for rules and others which he continually shows.

As to the rest, I personally feel it that it should be treated like the law is. Dependent on crime, intent and history. If a player with a good record, in the heat of the moment does something dangerous or injures another the player should be given the minimum ban. If a second offence with no malice, then a medium term ban. If intent was there, regardless of how(so kicking, biting, punching, tackling etc)or how bad the actual incident then a lengthy ban. For a case like Suarez who continually intentionally harms people and cheats, book thrown as it has been. Tough shit.

To be fair, if I have been "bigging up german footie" it's mainly been for their match day experience compared to ours.

That said, when I saw Dortmund they were outstanding - though in a one off game and against a team who went on to be relegated I found it difficult to make comparisons with the top English sides.
