I knew Dortmund were low payers but I didn't realize quite how much. Rafael Honestein a german football journalists reports their wage bill is somewhere between villa and spurs. Also Levandowski is on 25k a week which is probably the equivalent of an average premiership forward, that's going to be some pay rise coming his way in a few weeks!

I think one of the factors for Chelsea's high final-winning record and cup runs is the mercenary culture at the club. They've had quite a lot of 'big-game players' (Drogba being the biggest example), who won't care much in the league against lower teams, or early stages, but once it gets to the semis do that much more.

I suspect the dislike for Chelsea will ease over time, I never sense the same hostility to man city with the same business model, although I suspect the latter will become a far more stable club, unlike the revolving door at Stamford bridge. I think a lot of the hostility to Chelsea is because some of their players eg terry and cole are very unpopular and they will all be gone soon. A team with Oscar, Hazard, Mata and Ramirez undoubtedly have something to offer for the neutral.

To me as a neutral what was going on in the premiership was secondary to the drama in the lower leagues with league 1 and 2 both ending today. The finish in Brentford V Doncaster was amazing and in a week dominated by biting headlines is what football is really about. For Doncaster to go from looking destined for the play offs one minute to league champions the next is a turnaround that just cant happen in most sports. Have to feel for the Brentford player missing such a crucial penalty though.

As for league 2 I an glad Wimbledon survived, Barnet seem to just scrape survival every year, it was probably their turn.

Newcastle probably already have enough points to stay up, and with the fixtures remaining have the opportunity to pick up more.

That said, no surprise to me to see "Pards" starting strongly and then struggling to turn things around when the going gets tough.

Not quite as crap as a fortnight ago, but close. :(

Liverpool were good, and ruthless, but we let them be. Apart from 10 minutes at the first half before their 3rd goal, we were dire. We've got the players fit now, but no motivation, awful organisation.

Up until now, I've said that criticism of Pardew and calls for him to be sacked haven't helped, it's been an unfortunate season in lots of ways, and while I don't think he's a great manager, I never thought he was so bad that he'd take us down. Now? My only reason for not wanting a resignation is that there's no good managers available right now. Not since we went out of the Europa League have we played well for more than a period of about 20 minutes. We played a lot of hoofball today, which didn't help, but everything was wrong. Organisation at the back, possession in midfield, tracking-back, set pieces. Something needs to give the players and fans a lift and some hope, because we can't rely on Villa and Wigan being shit to stay up. Might just be Pardew going.

Absolutely gutted.

pt - he isn't a Brentford player ;)

Saw Trotta playing for Wycombe a while back in a different loan spell (from Fulham), looked a decent finisher to me, though lacking the all round game to play at the very top.

Congrats to Brian Flynn.

Sad for Barnet, looks like they'll be playing in a new stadium in non league.

I understand the taking of your son to games. I understand watching your boys team and being a local anyway why he'd have a soft spot for Newcastle.

But having been a Liverpool fan for all those years, followed them around the country and Europe? Surely he's still a Liverpool fan deep down?

Chris Murphy, aka @murfilicious, is on the verge of winning a life changing amount of money after placing a 5-bet accumulator on the title winners of English football’s top five divisions at the start of the season.

According to a screen shot, Murphy punted £25 at the start of the season that Manchester United, Cardiff, AFC Bournemouth, Gillingham and Mansfield Town would all be crowned champions of their respective leagues.

So far four of the five predictions have come to fruition, while the Cherries currently sit on top of League One holding a narrow 1-point advantage over second placed Doncaster Rovers.

With one game remaining in the League One, Bournemouth only need to match Doncaster’s result to win the title. Bournemouth travel to Tranmere (10th) while Donny head to Brentford (3rd).

We wish Chris Murphy the best of luck!

I have read differing amounts from 150k to 450k but if either are accurate this man must be devastated!

If this is true

Would you be happy with Benitez? Seems to be a bit of a buzz in town that he's being lined up.

This I find incredible. Are people really so fickle? I can only recall knowing one (adult) person changing allegiances and that was for a semi-reasonable reason.
