TheGayTent
I hope not. We've been linked with him and I'd love to see him at SJP. Far more than I'd want Carroll back. Last I heard was a month ago and that we were insisting on £10m, Liverpool £17m, with each prepared to shift £2m but thinking the other was being unreasonable. I doubt it'll happen anyway, Liverpool don't want to lose face selling him back to us at a ridiculous loss, and we don't want to pay more for him than another striker from abroad would cost. On the HBA swap front I heard that the valuation of the player was nearly as wide as it was for Carroll, and that the player wasn't interested anyway. pink_triangle
They won't be with the bookies - that'll be either Watford or Palace.
kaosmark2
Really? Whilst it isn't unheard of for a player to turn down a pay rise and a move to a bigger club it isn't the norm. I really enjoy watching HBA play, he's pleasing on the eye, but am not sure he's consistent enough to reach the highest heights. Whilst he's good enough to get in Liverpool's current team, I'm not sure he's good enough to get into the side Liverpool are aiming to be. Don't see how selling Carroll back to Newcastle at a whacking loss is any more of a losing face exercise than selling him to West Ham or any other club. It's still an obvious huge loss of money and unsuccessful transfer. Edited May 21, 2013 by kaosmark2
pink_triangle
Obviously the club and the manager want Carroll, however were he to turn the deal down, the board by agreeing the fee early have plenty of time to sort out a plan b (hopefully Bony). TheGayTent
Edit: Just seen the edited bit in. Yeah, I guess it's not that much more of a thing, but amusingly, if he goes to you we get a cut. 7.5% sell on fee apparently! TheGayTent
I don't know enough about Bony other than his impressive stats, however I think theres a danger of clubs getting in a bidding war for him and paying over the odds. strummer77
I wouldn't be surprised if we have cooled on Ben Arfa. Our attacking options are coming together a bit more nicely now so the cash would be better spent on the defenders we're supposedly after. strummer77
If that's true it's hilarious. Though again, I've obviously read different to you - I read it was 7.5% but only on any transfer fee above the fee he was bought for. How do you compare HBA from what you've seen thus far, against Robert at his peak?
TheGayTent
Tony Barrett from The Times says there is a clause (maybe as much as 25%) but only on any profit. Tony is reliable on Liverpool things being an ex-Echo man.

TheGayTent
It seems a bit strange to put a percentage profit clause on a deal which had almost no chance of producing a profit.

TheGayTent
Nothing new. I'd heard the rumour when Pardew was appointed that it was after winning a bet with Llambias at a casino but not in the last couple of years.
kaosmark2
Ah...slightly different to the tale I was told...which was Pardew got the gig because he owed Ashley & Lambias a load of dosh through gambling debts at their Casino.
TheGayTent
Yeah, a bit different. I'd wondered if you'd heard a new tale.

LondonTom
I'm a little bit sad that Carlton Cole has been announced as leaving West Ham! ...His been a decent enough constant over the last few years, through some pretty turbulent times and despite a few mistakes he tries hard! As twitter said "Underchuffed" I can see why he left, but I can't see us affording to get anyone better in to play second fiddle to Andy. (If that comes off!). Which of course if the Daves do manage to pull off, is a good bit of business...maybe slightly over valued for his ability and goals at the moment...but his still got lots of potential and his basically settled in the team nicely now, so I'd see it as well worth it. TheGayTent
Agree regarding Carlton. Not many players that turn down moves away that financially were better offers. Never gave anything less than 100%, took a pay cut to stay at the club, only cost £1.5m, 7 years at any club is an age in modern day football, and scored at Wembley to get promotion back to the top flight. Someone will get a very good free transfer. I hope he gets another top flight club. Maybe link up again with Zola...?

RobertProsineckisLighter
Well it has been a busy end of season for us, today we have completed out 12th signing. At the end of the season we only had 3 players (kids) contracted past the end of the season. KEEPERS: Phil Smith (Portsmouth), John Sullivan (Charlton)DEFENDERS: Sonny Bradley (Hull), Dan Butler (Portsmouth), Joe Devera(Swindon), Yassin Moutaouakil(Portsmouth), Adam Webster (Portsmouth)MIDFIELD: Andy Barcham (Sc**thorpe), Danny East (Hull), Romain Padovani (Monaco), Jed Wallace (Portsmouth)FORWARDS: Patrick Agyemang (Stevenage), David Connolly(Portsmouth), Tom Craddock(Oxford), Ashley Harris (Portsmouth) No idea who most of these are or if they are any good but its exciting times! kaosmark2
Europa winners getting CL spot confirmed to go ahead as from 2015-16 season onwards. If they've not qualified through the league then it's an extra spot for that nation. Good move, but they still need to stop the dropout at the group stage (I don't mind it so much in 3rd qualifiers).
