Ban anyone who is not their for a full festival experience.

No word of a lie - this happened to me back in 2006.

Queing for the bogs, as you do, when to young ladies (17/18) dressed up to the nines. Designer wellies, sunflower in a the hat they woudnlt normally wear, hotpants and a can of strongbow......you know the type.

One of them turns to the other and says "I know what we can do, how about we head back to the campsite for a bit, then to the arena and then we can go back to the hotel to wash our hair and have a shower before heading back for *insert innane pop punk band here*"

I turned around and just stood there is utter disbelief that these girls had pitched a tent in a campsite but had a hotel room to go to "incase things got too much" - ridiculous.

If you are not prepared to stink, not wash, drink till you cant see and generally enjoy all the festuival has to offer....GTFO.

Take the nme stage out of the tent and have 2 open air stages. Ban children under atleast 14, way to many children at both leeds last year and download this year. Also would make the line up posters they sell at leeds the leeds order rather than the reading order.

Make it an 18+ event, maybe? Would change the demographic a bit, change the sort of bands they'd book, change the atmosphere... would be unfair to the younger people who actually go for the music, though.

If you could somehow just make more people nicer, like at Glastonbury. I don't mean make everyone a hippy (not really what Glasto's like) but just generally, people are friendlier. Small example that always pisses me off. I don't carry a lighter at Glastonbury because it's a nice easy conversation starter to borrow one, everyone obliges and you often get chatting to cool people. I tried this at leeds fest one year and every time but one, the reply to 'can I borrow your lighter please?' was 'only if you give me a cig'. After using two every time I wanted one I had to start saying no, and usually got called a dick. I gave up, bought a lighter, and stopped trying to talk to people.

Age limit would probably work, but then that's not fair on all the sound 16-18 year olds that go. Age might be a factor (people get a bit excited getting drunk without their parents for a weekend) but really, once a dick, always a dick. It'd just have to become uncool again really. I mention Glastonbury to a lot of people and a surprising amount (usually knobs plastered in Superdry logos) say something like 'fuck that, full of hippies'. I'm glad they think that.

2nd stage an outdoor stage is a good shout imo. I don't mind the tents (often a good atmosphere), but just prefer an outdoor stage for comfort, even if it does come with it's own drawbacks (mostly sound related).

I found people at Reading to be nice, happy and not unwilling to chat to randoms on the whole. A few cocks, but glastonbury has those as well, just in a different flavour and a lower proportion on the whole, I believe.

Mandatory fancy dress, of course, is essential. :P

For me, get rid of the ridiculous new entry system that means you have to walk around half the camp site to get in from town (Reading)

In the old days you went in right by the bottom left side of the arena (as you look at the main stage) and walked up along the side of the arena. Now you have to Zigzag about and walk up around Red, adding a good 15-20 minutes to the journey
