Gossard
If the eight bands announced so far for RW were announced for a major UK fest as the biggest eight bands (I'm presuming that's what they are for RW?), it'd be laughed out of town. eFestivals
PishNot at all.The bands are great if you like those particular bands, but if you put that aside and consider their general appeal in the UK, that wouldn't be considered a special top-end line-up for a festival such as Reading/Leeds (it would be somewhat unusual, but not great/special). BlurFan1994
The name will make this seem a very bias comment - but I'd like to chip in and say that I think that Blur, Green Day, Rammstein and Depeche Mode alone is a very strong set of four headliners. I can guarantee that the Reading and Leeds crowd would be praising that selection to the high heavens. So I have to disagree, I think there is a strong general appeal in the UK for those four acts in particular. I'm unfamiliar with Volbeat so can't comment on them, Kings Of Leon are as good a joint/sub headliner as most UK festivals will have this year and as for Editors... well, I'd agree they would never get so high a place in the UK. eFestivals
Depeche Mode are a very long way short of headlining a fest like Reading (tho that doesn't mean they won't headline Reading). They've played just one fest in the UK in the last 13 years - Wireless in London - and they failed to sell it out by quite a long chalk. They're similar in many ways to The Cure in that they could headline, but until the moment they're announced just about no one would think of them as potential headliners.Even Green Day would be marginal as a headliner now, just like KoL are. Rammstein would be off the radar. As for Blur, they were boring people over ten years ago ... but I know they'd sell.
posica
Sorry, but this made me laugh.... ...but I think we should switch to RW again, this conversation is getting silly! Both Dour and Graspop have already announced new names today, hopefully RW will follow later today
eFestivals
I'm not trying to say they're bad headliners BTW. I'm merely laughing at the idea of it being eight headliners.
Chiefski
PS: KoL might end up headlining an equivalent fest in the UK this year, but that'll be luck for KoL more than the fest really wanting them as headliner. The sales of their tourdates show they've dropped from headliner level.

eFestivals
So yeah, I definitely can see where you're coming from - just disagree with the idea that a main UK festival with those four headliners and a reasonable undercard wouldn't sell I didn't say it wouldn't sell. I said that a UK fest with those headliners "would be laughed out of town". That was a pretty stupid set of words for me to use TBH, but I was sort-of provoked by the suggestion of it being eight solid headliners. They're alright headliners, and they might even be fantastic to people from Belgium. But they're not a set of headliners which is going to make more than a handful of people considering goiung to any of the UK major festivals wish they were going to RW instead.Having said that, none of the UK festivals do have a lineup like this so far which is why I'm increasingly leaning towards a trip to RW so perhaps you're right and it is all just the fact that these bands appeal to me! Ha Personal appeal is personal appeal, but that's all it is. I'm pretty sure almost everyone would go WTF at a set of headliners that I'd personally find stunning. there's been mention of Prodigy being added to that and that would be another "headliner", but they're pretty standardly subs for similar UK fests and no one is thinking "another headliner" when they are subs.I see nothing in what's announced and what have been mentioned as being added as anything which takes RW above what UK fests standardly present - that and only that is my point. BlurFan1994
Understood eFestivals (apologies! I'm pretty new to the forum so don't have a name to put to you), I see your point now I too can't wait for a new announcement, it'll be make or break in persuading mates to head to RW
posica
What Werchter's doing !? Do you think that they have a problem with a big band (The Prodigy-The Killers ...??) and it prevents them to make an announce ? And also, Pukkelpop said :"Plans for the week-end ?" => Possibility of announce Saturday or Sunday, I guess SOAD or Eminem
