No, you're making stuff up saying the system is crap will fail and if it does people will get angry, no shit yourself. I said as long as they have a system in place that can cope with the demands it will be fine, you seem to think it will be the end of the world. Also if it does fail at any point in the weekend it should be for a short period of time and not actually cause that much of a problem.

My question is why overcomplicate things? A spending limit would be a pain. We, like most people I assume, send one people from our group to get everyone a pint. If everyone has to go for themselves then that'd make bigger queues, you'd think? And then you gotta queue twice. If it's got a chip in it that's round your wrist, what's the chance of that getting fucked up by rain or rolling around in mud or whatever stupid shit people get up to at festivals?

Money works (well, it does when it comes to buying things at festivals, the larger debate can be left for another time) I don't see why we need to bother with wristbands? Don't lose your wallet, it's not hard.

I'm making nothing up.

saying the system is crap will fail and if it does people will get angry,

the very definition of any system is that eventually it will fail ... unless you're going to be showing me the world's first error free system?

For what happens when a system like this fails - as one did just last weekend - I suggest you go and read up on Bloc.

there is no system which can cope with the demands for all the time. Not one, ever. That's the point!!!

And again, I suggest you read up on Bloc.

Simple systems are able to be amended if there's some sort of systems failure. Electronic systems do not have the same safety net.

I can tell you don't bank with RBS, NatWest or Ulster Bank, anyway.:lol:

What do the cashless wristbands used so far look like?

Cash all the way for me, why over complicate something that's already working fine? Plus you can regulate how much you spend a day better if you just take a £20 with you whereas I can imagine spunking more money on booze not knowing my limits.

knowone is saying the system (if put in place) will fail, they are saying there is a possibility that it could fail and if it does fail it will end up in riots. Festivals do not have the funding to put a massively reliable system that has back up systems and back up systems have back up systems.

Bloc had an electronic entry system and were over capacity, bit different really.

Bloc had an electronic entry system. More people went thru the gate than should have done.

That's a different thing to "over capacity". And that distinction is a very important consideration.

I'm not saying that it would work and should be used as the technology is not yet good enough.

the people pushing these systems don't believe they're not good enough, which is why festivals are using them. ;)

I can just see both sides of the argument,

then you'll know that ultimately these systems are simply gadgets for the sake of it, which don't deliver all they promise, cannot be made fool-proof against system failure and the chaos that will ensue as a result, and are an attempt at fixing a problem which doesn't exist in the first place. AND we'll all pay extra for having something that's not needed.

In regards to theft I've never had a problem, here's why:

I've always had my wallet on a chain, (a steal one, like people wore in the 90s) with my phone and camera (if i decide to bring it) on one also. At one occasion, sonisphere 2009, some fucker slipped his hand into pocket and grabbed my wallet , however obviously could not pull it away from me so had to let go, the main annoyance of this situation is that he ran off so quickly i couldn't whack him in the face...

I'd rather festivals gave out/sold chains (cheaply) for your phone and keys (infairness reading does/did) as from this experience (and also once or twice whilst out clubbing) i can say this actually works..

In regards to food at festivals. Can't we have a system, food wise, where we pre pay for a certain number of meals for over the weekend? a festival could set up a huge canteen and actually have some proper food and not some shitty burger and pizza. (i'm atually suggesting something similar to what they have at the Eden project if anyone ever been) That way people could have a some proper food and not be ripped off buying a £5 burger made from old donkey meat... Its just a suggestion.
