"First thing’s first, I’m a veggie myself and have been most of my life, and of course there will be veggie burgers for all the veggies. There will also be soft drinks for people who do not or cannot drink because of age restrictions. And, as I explained to BBC 6 Music, it is only for the three music days – not everyday and only for weekend ticket holders - but it will be from a number of food stalls and it will definitely happen. As I said, even if I have to pay for it myself it will happen!"

Not quite a butty eh Melvin?

just checked the leeds festival website and other than the original news article proclaiming a free beer and burger I can't see any mention in the information section of the website about any free food or drink whatsoever. having said that, the reading festival information section appears to have far more information in it than the leeds festival one anyway. hope we do still get a free... something. and as a vegetarian a chip buttie would go down far better than a burger anyway =]

I've said it before and I'll say it again, anything said by a festival promotor should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Also they're highly unlikely to give a shit about people pointing oout their inaccuracy/hypocrisy about things like exclusives or free burgers.

I don't think a "beer and a burger" was ever going to be a pint from the bar and a proper burger from a stall (more like a crappy plain burger or now buttie and one of those small plastic botthes of Tuborg). I can see how if it was then that would be attractive but if you were an optimist and a believer who though they'd be saving £30 rather than a cynical bitter old fool then you've just been taught a life lesson.

I agree that he was taking the plaudits when he announced it but looking deeper rather than reading/believeing the headlines the lack of information should have been a concern. Same with the IOW guy when he mentioned refunds for those who couldn't make it.

To add to that I do feel bad for people if, during these hard times, a meal and a beer a day were an attractive proposition and I can understand it being a bonus that may have persuaded someone to plump for R&L over another festival. Over the last couple of years I've come across youngsters at Reading who have spent all their money on tickets and haven't eaten for a day because they wanted a couple of beers instead (yes I did buy one of them a drink). Some of these only spend £30 in the arena during the whole festival so if they'd fallen for the PR then it's going to sting. I guess I'm just in a fortunate position to be able to dismiss these sort of things as gimmicks and not expect much to turn out as advertised.
