But they are too repetitive, not a year goes past that they don't headline festivals in the UK or touring, it's just too predictable they play every 2-3 years.

At least Mumford and Rhianna are something a little different, I prefer festivals to be a bit adventurous with their bookings.

Either making acts up to headline status or booking something different like Prince, Stevie Wonder, McCartney, Elton, The Cure, Depeche Mode and a whole host of other acts that don't tour the circuit to death.

I don't dislike The Killers, seen them a few times over the years.

Fair enough. I do understand, but Mumford and Sons and Rhianna have been doing festivals over the years too. Ok maybe first time headlining (can't say I've checked). But guarantee this time in 2/3 years ur be sick of them too.

Like I said in a fan boy so won't grow old with me.

For me they fall in the same bracket as Muse, Kasabian, KOL, Arctic Monkeys, Green Day etc.. And you will continue to see a band like that at every major festival for years to come

The bands you have mentioned (and you can add in the foos) are to me the most boring set of headliners I can think of, not because I don't like the bands, but because I have seen them so many times.

There was an interview with the guy from the foals the other day complaining about how festivals don't give new bands a leg up or go out on a limb with headliners. They stick to the same bands or book old bands reforming. The result is a limited stock of headliners because nobody is thought of in them terms.

Although I don't think mumfords is going out on a massive limb I think its a good move. The arguments about wether they are big enough for me centre on if they have the catologue and the answer to that have been, well plenty of bands have headlined on two albums. Which in a way says what I am trying to say.

You make these guys headliners by making them headliners. They get talked about in them terms next year if they are any good. Its a bit of a risk but only a bit in the case of mumfords.

The trouble is, as you suggest, is we end up sick of them. Then again, I think that would be as a result of safe bookings. (which i fully understand, massive scary budgets and few folks buy T tickets for the banter anymore)

Mumfords, rhianna etc need to earn the right to headline, IMHO they haven't! Is rhianna any bigger than Lady gaga was when she played Saturday afternoon slot? Not to my mind. Are Mumford and sons any bigger than the vaccines who played Saturday afternoon last year?

Both of those acts have, I think you are underestimating their status these days.

Mumfords have been on the circuit for about 4-5 years, working their way up from small festivals to the biggest ones.. and up the stages too.

I remember seeing them at Blissfields in 2009, and they were brilliant that day!

Agreed... It is as I said earlier in the thread, I am no longer T demographic. Too old I loved T, seen some wonderful acts met some amazing people.

This year is like going on a final date with your girlfriend, you know it is over but you are going out hoping for one last fumble hahahaha

Would they suit being opposite Stereophonics? Be a great way for me to get out of seeing them.

Just to also add a band overall update on days:

Mumford & Sons playing Friday

Beady Eye playing Friday.

Everything Everything playing Friday

Villagers playing Friday

Tribes playing Friday

Chase & Status playing Friday

Pheonix playing FridayHaim playing Friday

The Strypes playing Friday

Kraftwerk playing Friday

Rihanna playing Saturday

The Script playing Saturday (I imagine)

Modest Mouse playing Saturday

The Lumineers playing Saturday

Dizzee Rascal playing Saturday

Alt-J playing Saturday

Peace playing Saturday

Daughter playing Saturday

The Killers playing Sunday

Chvrches playing Sunday

YYY's playing Sunday

Stereophonics playing Sunday

Foals playing Sunday

Frank Turner playing Sunday

Modestep playing Sunday

Bastille playing Sunday

that works out without Of Monsters and Men, Snoop Dogg, Frightened Rabbit, The View, Twin Atlantic, Emeli Sande, Dizzee Rascal, Jake Bugg and Editors, 16 acts of those that I'd see. Clashes I'd imagine will be inevitable.

Its over for me this year, I'm afraid. Over the course of the weekend I can only pick about three acts I'd like to see.

I got stung last year after buying a presale on the strength of the previous year's great lineup with Foo Fighters, Weezer, etc.

Been going since '99 but pop music isn't my demographic.

There is still an NME headliner tba I reckon, probably a more guitar based act. Guetta will play below her imo.

Don't want to wade into the headliner argument but from the three this year Rihanna is the biggest, and deserves the spot whether we like her or not... just think, I'm sure if the net was more widespread in the 90s we'd all have arguments about Texas and M People heading. T has always acted as a 'rights of passage' for your school leavers and the likes off, or ha done in the last 10 or so years imo (probably as most festivals did during the 'boom' period)

YYY's will be high NME again I'd say, along with Foals
