I was a pretty big Paramore a few years back, sort of grew out of them though. I stick by that they probably could headline NME, but it would be a weak booking compared to QOTSA. Paramore might appeal to the Radio 1 listening audience more, but QOTSA I would imagine are a better festival band, especially after their glasto performance.

I think if the headliners were KOL, Gaga and Green Day, I would be a little disappointed. I've got no interest in the first two, and I'd only go for Green Day to satisfy the 13 year old within me that never got the chance. I'd much prefer Blur, Biffy and someone else, we'll see what happens.

Good point Paul. Think that git that sings took a strop and smashed a decent guitar. Read that somewhere but might be bollox.

Of for a Depeche Mode or Cure type headliner

Depeche Mode, Green Day and Radiohead would restore my faith in T

It's more out of habit than anything else. Weekend with mates and we've stayed with the same couple since 1998. Loyalty I suppose, more to the folks we stay with, but getting to the stage where T itself isn't much fun. The lack of variety in the line up does get me down.

Cheers for replies. Love rock/metal and spent a lot of time at the Capitol in Aberdeen watching Maiden, UFO, Motorhead et all.

Just need a change from T after next July. Probably seen every band there I want to and getting sick of the repeat bookings and the change in the type of bands being booked.

Been to T since 94 and had some fantastic weekends. Never found it a nedfest either.

If you're going to tell it how you think mate, just do it. Have other friends who have been a couple of times over the year including 06 with Tool, Tallica and Guns and they say they'd never return either, they both love Tallica but not even a day ticket was tempting, one loves The Prodigy and exactly the same response. I almost have to agree, the walk is a trek and is enough to put me off, later at night especially you just can't get down the front except for going down the middle pretty much due to everyone with their chairs n shit. At leeds it's just massively open, go where you want. It was my 1st festival ever and have to say that even though I'm a bit like this is done now, I'd return everytime over download.

I don't think gazza has been to Download. You don't have to walk as far as at T and getting to the front of the stages is a piece of cake. The only people blocking with chairs etc are at the top by the food stalls which is miles from the front. T has far more energetic and unwilling to yield crowds. This is both a plus and a minus point for T. It's great if you're in teh mood but if you just want to get closer to enjoy the music you're going to get shoved around and covered in piss/beer. The walk between 1st/2nd/3rd/4th at DL is a fraction of what it is at T and there is also continuity so if you like one band you are quite likely to like the next. No Slash into Beyonce or Biffy into JayZ type rubbish where the whole crowd has to move at the same time against a wall of people going in all directions. The vibe at DL is much more chilled which some hardened T goers might find strange initially but the lack of flying piss and neds stopping you every 5 minutes to slur out their best one liner also has its attractions. The lack of a Healthy T type area is a down point but the bars and bogs are placed better and also people actually use the urinals instead of just pissing against anything vertical that hasn't moved for 5 seconds.

A lot of the negative voices this year were mainly because of the mud at Download but those of us who were at both know that DL was like a desert in comparison to T. If I had to choose just one festival at the moment it would be Download. Just as well I can afford to go to whichever ones I fancy eh? Nothing would please me better than T putting on a belting line up and going there but sadly I can't see it. Not buying an early bird out of habit has liberated me! :)
