I think I've more a problem with Mumford than Rihanna.

In the latter's case, I can see she is a massive act at the moment, and will probably put on quite the show, but she's not really the genre I personally like. Well done to Geoff getting her anyway.

I enjoyed Mumford & Son's first album (still need to check out the new one) and although they're massive, I can't see them being an event live in the same way Rihanna would be. There's no 'wow' factor in my opinion.

The bookings make sense from a business point of view, they just don't seem to make sense from a music lover's point of view. Maybe that's just me though.

According to Mumford's website they are playing the Friday. Friday traditionally has always had weaker headliners so we shouldn't be that surprised.

Rihanna would probably headline the Saturday hopefully leaving us open for a massive act to close the weekend, key word hopefully. Although with Muse, Blur, KOL all out the running it seems like it will be one of The Killers or Green Day unless they shock us with something unexpected.

Having said that whilst I find the announcement so far a bit under whelming, it's very much a sensible booking by Geoff.

The lead singer of the Script was on a reality TV show wasn't he? Therefore they are now huge in the UK! Of all the announcements so far they are the best. He can actually sing, is a good frontman and they play real instruments.

Neil I was old in 2010 and 11 and there was plenty for me then. Old I am by years on the planet standards (same as you I reckon) but not in my tastes. I listen to all sorts but festivals and gigs should be where you see performers doing their stuff live. That is the only constant in my gig going tastes. I have always maintained that "bands" should perform live. If I want to listen to CDs I'll stay at home or go to a club. Fancy dance routines of flashing lights mean nothing to me. Those that think Rhianna will be singing live are in for a shock. Don't get me wrong, I quite like some of her stuff and I'd obviously chuck one in her direction if I was forced to but she's as awesome as Ronan Keating live.

So is anyone here still planning on going? I think I'll be giving it a miss to be honest, might give Isle of Wight a try, or try and get a cheap Glasto ticket late in the day...what about you guys?

As I've said a million times, T (and just about every other fest) got stuck in a rut. Because they're trying to get out of it the changes perhaps show more than might have done.

It's not just T doing this, it's every mainstream festival - and do you really think they're all mis-reading the market? They're doing what they're doing because they're chasing the market.

and yet the Chemical Brothers and Prodigy are 20+ years old, and few would complain with them coming on stage and pressing play.

That's my opinion too - but it's not music that's aimed at us old gits.

For its target market it hits home, no different to how landfill indie was doing 10 years ago.

And its target market is T's demographic, the same demographic T's always had. You've come out of the other end of that now, and no matter how many times I say it it seems you just can't see it.

You have moved by the passing of years. T has stayed in the same place. It's not T that has changed, it's you.

In fairness, I've got Mumford, Rihanna who I would see again, Jake Bugg, of Monsters and Men out of that. Being my only time I'll go, kinda looking at trying to find headliners on a few different stages to vary it a bit so with Mumford I have one.

Don't think that's a too bad start. I did think, Mumford - bit underwhelming, but I realise they are huge and sell more tickets than most right now, went for tickets for their uk tour and didn't get so this is kinda nice. Part of it doesn't seem right but other part you know they are big enough, I like their stuff and if honest I'd rather this and be fresh than the repeats of others.

As said, KOL, Muse and Blur out

I still wouldn't say The Killers are defo on and I don't think it'll be Biffy

So T was stuck in a rut and had to change but T hasn't changed? Hmmm Oooooooookaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!

You just don't want to get your head around it do you? ;lol:

T has always been a pop festival, serving up what is current to 'today's youth'. It is still doing that, you have ceased to be one of the 'youths' that it's targetted at.

Mixed in amongst that is that it got stuck in a rut - so it kept on serving up indie landfill long after the new bunches of kids coming thru had stopped (as a general rule) listening to that. It probably got stuck in that rut because indie landfill is what the people doing the bookings knew (after all, they're not 'today's youth' either), but that's just my speculation.

Despite getting stuck in that rut, it's remained what it was. A festival presenting the current bands, and primarily aimed at a young age group.

You have got older.

Got it? Probably not, because you don't want to get it, if for no other reason than it impacts back on how you think of who you are.
