T in the Park 2013

Thing is the key bit in that news article is this.

"T boss GEOFF ELLIS booked the band after they topped a poll of the festival’s punters"

People often forget the man best placed to realise what the people of T want and need is Geoff, the poll at the end of the year is filled in by thousands and chances are if an act tops the bill then Geoff trys to book it, in this case the most wanted act is the Killers so he's booked them.

You'll still have people moaning there c**t of about it on here though, as usual.

Anyone that thinks music is age based is a bit daft.

then ask your Dad why he prefers Val Doonican, ask yourself why you like what you do, and ask today's kids why they like what you don't.

What people like might not be anything to do with their age, but there's no denying that as a generalisation each generation has a different take on music.

"

The Killers first played at the event in 2007."

They played before then didn't they? If true, it's not really surprising. Bit better than the other 2 but hardly inspiring.

played 2005

they first played in 2004, on the nme stage.

I didn't know who the fuck they were, but the crowd fuull of girrls wouldn't styop screaming 'Brandon'.

They were the most uncharismatic band I saw at T that year. They were dreadful. Which of course means that the pop fans would make them massive.

I wouldnt take what the sun or geoff take as gospel. They might have topped the poll of bands that geoff could or would book, but i doubt very much they topped that poll. Who knows, who cares, ill not be at t this year, which is exactly what he prob wants. Some young scamp can take my place and enjoy it

I've came to accept that t in the park is no longer aimed at me, and after seeing the line up and having not attended last year that I will probably never again, at least in the capacity of a weekend camper but I can see why they book acts like Rhianna and The Killers. Anyone who tried to get tickets for the Killers at the SECC will know they sold out in a matter of minutes and at least live are still held in high regard and acts like Rhianna and Mumford &sons are extremely popular with 16-20 year olds.

This all makes me wish there was still Connect Festival, sadly I don't think there was the acts or enough demand for it, but a festival aimed at the more "mature" t in the park goes would be a good thing.

Like i said yesterday, you cant argue with the commercial side of the announcements. All are big selling artists tha. Can shift tickets.

From that point of view promoters are doing what seems a good thing. Its just not for me. If the undercard was amazing, i would contemplate it nearer the time, but nit until bands are announced.

Hoping rockness pulls something out the bag. Or might head to latitude.

Is that not most festivals viewpoint? Has he ever actually been close to being booked for Glastonbury? I know they have always wanted him.

Yeah, it's the same for any fest. Prince will only confirm that he'll turn up about 6 weeks before a show.

Eavis believed that he'd booked him for the 2011 festival for a while (which was in Aug 2010), but I'm not sure why. I'd guess that there's one or more people claiming to represent him who doesn't really represent him.

They'll really need to pull something out the bag to make February's announcement a big deal now with all three headliners announced and met with a lukewarm response.

yeah, cos no one wants the Killers, the vote was made up. laugh.png

If T goers ask for stuff like this, then two things...

1 why moan if you get it?

2. it's hardly shocking that the T line-ups are crap, is it?

Personally, I think you could announce Jesus Christ, the resurrection of Elvis Presley and a reformed Beatles for T and folk would still be annoyed. People aren't going to be happy no matter what you announce.

that's because no matter who is announced it's always not going to be the favourite band of an awful lot of people.

Far too much notice is taken of 'social media' right now, when the massive majority of it is nothing more than noise. It's not anything meaningful.

Hopefully within a few years us humans will hopefully wise up the fact that it's not better than sliced bread after all. But I don't hold out much hope. ;)
