Skynny
It's been streamed on NPR, I personally fucking love it. Thoughts? http://www.npr.org/2012/07/10/156551726/first-listen-the-gaslight-anthem-handwritten
VCK
45, Howl and Biloxi Parish are all sounding great! And the rest are sure to grow on me.
jonnyisRFC
Love it so much. These guys will be huge one day, I challenge anybody to find a better song writer than Brian Fallon. You'd have to be crazy to miss these guys at Reading/Leeds this year.
AcademicPistol
I was discussing this is another thread I earlier they may well be big one day but I find them so bland and the song writing is absolutely dreadful maybe their weakest feature. Chinaski_
I thought it was really boring, if I'm honest. Which is a shame, as I loved the first two albums. 45, Mulholland Drive and Biloxi Parish are the best tracks on there.
Chiefski
Enjoying it mostly so far, as most saying Biloxi Parish is lovely, really like how thats turned out, not so much stick out songs but all solid.

You've obviously never listened to there lyrics properly, bet you're buzzin' for Enter Shitkari and OFWGKTA aren't you mate haha
AcademicPistol
"hey hey turn the record over" and other such lyrics are cringeworthy. I think the acts you listed that you think I like on par with their them. And no I'm buzzin' for Tool, Deftones, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Pixies, System of a Down etc. Don't get all the hype about a poor mans E Street Band. AcademicPistol
Because when you can't find an actual argument, belittle and condescend. Don't be a douche, lyrics don't make the song.

AcademicPistol
I disagree with that, there's a few acts like Against Me, Monster Magnet, Red Sovine, Tenacious D, Beans On Toast etc where it's all about the lyrics for me.

jonnyisRFC
I agree, lyrics don't make all of the song but how you can criticise Gaslights lyrics is beyond me, no matter if you like there music or not you can't tell me that they're 'cringeworty' or 'dull'
Vieuphoria
I prefer The Gaskight Anthem. As Spotify so carefully have called them.
jump
I'm afraid I just can't believe that. Otherwise you'd be a much larger fan of spoken word/poetry. Edited July 20, 2012 by jump

Good example using Against Me! There Lyrics mean everything Not had a chance to listen to the new album yet, loved the 1st 2 and the 2nd was a bit too meh otherwise I'm looking forward to it. jump
I love listening to the lyrics of Against Me since I found out the lead singer is transgender, it adds a new spin to a few songs like The Ocean and Spanish Moss.
AcademicPistol
What makes you think I'm not? For the majority I need at least decent lyrics to enjoy most stuff the same way bad lyrics could put me off a song but saying that there are acts like Rammstein, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra where I enjoy them without even caring about the lyrics. One of my favourite bands is Big D & The Kids Table soundwise they are good ska punk band but not brilliant but what ultimately made me a bigger fan of them is the lyrics where after I listening 1 of their songs for 99th time I can still listen to it for the lyrics and think about them, for the stories they tell, there attitude towards life and I even bought the frontman's book which is made up of poems and lyrics he wrote and it's not even about writing great lyrics either it's about the attiude of them as I find myself agreeing with it.. Those acts I mentioned above got me listening to them because of the lyrics, take away the lyrics and I doubt I would be a fan still. kaosmark2
Lyrics matter, but not always, and not usually as much as the music itself. And the best lyricist in the world is Nick Cave.
