Lyrics aren't the be-all, end-all of music for me but when they're good lyrics, they add something special to the music. It's the case with bands like The Smiths, Manics and Pulp. Those bands are driven by their lyrics as much as their music.

Then there's really bad lyricists like Noel Gallagher and Billy Corgan who still capable of writing an anthem.

Brian Fallon's lyrics usually reference Americana of yesteryear, so although I still think he's a talented songwriter I don't particularly find his lyrics relatable, but the music does the talking for me.

Would say he (Brian) owes alot to who he looks up to as well, your Springsteens, Pearl Jams, The Clash etc, wouldnt say that any of those where lyrically brilliant all the time but had enough about them through the way the expressed their lyrics and the music that backed it. Going by the new tracks, 'Mae' for example, theres nothing special lyrically, but the way that hes able to put it over makes it sound brilliant.

Yeah, The Radioheads are pretty good but I prefer The Machine Heads, The Motorheads and The Silverheads.

The albums grown on me but there's still something not quite right about Gaslight Anthem. As I've said elsewhere, they will have a fantastic album one day but it will probably be their Best Of. Too much filler on most of their albums.

Strange that I should think this as I have all their albums and have seen them live but there just seems to be something missing.
