airwaves
AAAgggggHHHHHHHHHHHH - Friday. Have pursuaded Mrs Airwaves to come to only her second festival on the basis that Roy Harper is playing. And now I find that there will probably be serious clashes with just about the only other contemporary names she knows on the bill because I repeat play their albums - John Grant, Low Anthem, Lanterns on the Lake. Also mightyly disappointed that Roy is not on Garden Stage, that would be a wonderful setting for him.
Mardy
some Friday afternoon thoughts: 1) yeah, Alabama Shakes are tedious as fuck. Anything based on a dull notion of 'authenticity' is likely to be so. 2) What a lineup. Clashes all over the shop for me. 3)Trailer Trash Tracys have disappeared? Boooo. Fareham Grecian
Alabama Shakes billed higher than both The Antlers and Tindersticks. Really? That is daft.
shoebox
Confirmed on Facebook that King Charles is playing on the Thursday. Still haven't listened to him, so I'm reserving judgement.
perfectpassion
As long as he plays all the Tin Machine stuff though - don't want any of that 70s junk. Hope it's not Brakes personally, just can't face that porcupine, pineapple dilemma again, I'll never be able to decide.
shoebox
OK, listening to King Charles now. Think I've just worked out when I go and get something to eat on the Thursday. This is a joke, right?

shoebox
If he is, then I'm selling my ticket and heading to Jesusstock instead! I think Stryper are headlining.
ljsawyer
Hoping they stagger the Garden and Woods stage times so that I can see all of Abigail Washburn, DDW and Francois & The Atlas Mountains. RedRockRick
Alabama Shakes are terrific live, can't understand the negativity, presumably from people who haven't actually seen them? Actually live now here, if anyone's on: http://www.npr.org/event/music/155839092/newport-folk-festival-2012
riverlodge
i agree with you RRR. saw them at Lat, and they properly filled the mainstage - with swayey type dancing too- on Saturday afternoon. then, loads of comments about them being 'ok' or 'great to drink cider to' (i agree that) and, diss above diss 'just like a pub band'. ffs if you get voices like brittany in your local then i'm going to come and live on your sitting room floor. Yokel Again
Glad I'm not the only one feeling the Alabama Shakes love. so what if they've only one album, they will be great on a big stage with the sun coming down and a happy crowd ready to boogie. Love that album. The schedule has got me really, really excited. A couple of clashes, but it is a festival after all!! Plenty of choice, some great bands, some great company. Band A being too high / low / wrong stage isn't going to bother me too much. COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS! :-)
geofelgie
Alabama Shakes are damn good live, I missed the end of their set at Latitude because I headed off to see Jonathan Wilson - thinking he was more likely to clash at EOTR being on the Bella Union day. Turns out I was wrong - suspect I may be missing the end of them again to tootle off to Tindersticks. Of course they could be doing this "surprise slot", which would be good.......though Guillemots would be better!
cmouse
Hmm I think we stood behind you at the end of Jonathan Wilson! I confess I was waiting for Thomas Dolby though JW did seem pretty good
kidpresentable
I saw Alabama Shakes at Latitude too. I was surprised that they opened the set with their two best songs (in my opinion) as I wasn't sure where it left them to go, but overall I enjoyed their set. They only really make one sound, but it's a good sound.
mrbluesky
I'm a bit late to this but it seems to me there is too much good stuff on Fri/Sat and not enough on the Sunday... and all the good stuff on Sunday clashes (Grandaddy vs Villagers, First Aid Kit vs Woods). Then again, what do I know!
ljsawyer
Saturday is by far the best and Friday is the weakest day for me, but only because I've seen a lot of the Bella Union bands before. Woods vs. First Aid Kit is probably the most annoying clash though.
geofelgie
Actually Sunday is my best day in a way - less bands I want to see overall (I have 20 on Friday!) but many of my "most-looking-forward-tos": Doug Paisley, Porcelain Raft, First Aid Kit, Outfit, Patrick watson/Deer Tick, Grandaddy/Villagers...... ....am nervous about where those clashes are going to fall!!!! ps could get full time schedules this week
ljsawyer
Full Time Hobby just posted up on the EOTR Facebook that Pinkunoizu are playing at 2:45pm. So they've seemingly finalised the times and let the bands/record labels know but haven't told us yet!
