Weather!

As a Glastonbury regular and first timer at EOTR I am sitting thinking what's up with you people??

A week out from Glastonbury and we all sit obsessing about the weather and the 'weather' topic is around 150 pages by now! Here - nothing!

Have you a little secret you aren't telling me about - the Larmer Tree micro climate where the sun shines all year round? Even the forecasters pretty much agree (unheard of with Glastonbury!) and it's looking pretty dry!

But seriously what is the weather usually like in Dorset in September? Do the nights get cold? Does it get warm enough for shorts? When it rains does it hammer down or does some EOTR spirit throw an umbrella over the site?

Come on people start obsessing! A pre-festival week won't be the same without me checking these boards ever hour!

And relax.....

I've just done some weather research, got (even more) excited cos the forecast is now superb all weekend, came on here to start a thread about it and find it already done!

I've been to the last 3 EotRs, never seen mud, never got wet. The weather in those 3 years has ALWAYS been better than forecast, so there may be something in the microclimate theory. The Garden stage in particular is a real sheltered suntrap. Mind you, it is chilly at night when the weather's good...

See you can talk about the weather!!

You have me excited now too! Let's get this thread up to ooh let's say 5 pages!

How many layers do people sleep in to tackle these cold nights?

Come on Mr Sunshine lets shine on the music - I'm thinking Jonathon Wilson in the sunshine will seem like we're really in Laurel Canyon!

It can get pretty cold some nights, bring blankets! But on the whole I don't think I've ever been to a rainy EOTR in my three years (with this being my fourth). There was quite a bit of a drizzle during Josh T. Pearson last year that I can remember, as well as a couple showers here and there, but not enough to create any mud at all. Fingers crossed that this year will be the same!

Glad to see the prospect of 20+ degrees , but it's important to note (to self!) the minimum temperatures on the forecasts. 8 degrees means having a decent sleeping bag and possibly blankets if you don't fancy sleeping in ALL your clothes.

Jonathan WIlson on a warm sunny afternoon is a must! I may have to miss the start of Van Dyke Parks.

you need to leave it another day or so to get a reasonable idea of what will happen on Thurs/Fri. EOTR has had an incredible record with the weather so far, I've been to all but one of them and have very rarely seen any rain. Having said that it lashed it down at Larmer Tree Festival this year and it got very muddy by all accounts. The nights generally get cold, if there are clear skies it gets very nippy indeed (as Joanna Newsom found out last year).

Saw a few photos of friends that went to this year's Larmer Tree, and it was mud, mud, muddy to say the least.

We live in Blandford, about 10 miles away from the site, and over the last 3 days or so we've had some very hefty showers of rain at times and the forecast for around here (at the moment, according to the BBC Weather) is not very good for tomorrow and sunshine and showers forecasted on Wednesday and Thursday, but dry for the rest of the weekend, although with the dry and warm spells of weather that we've had in between it should prevent it from becoming muddy before the start.

Thus spake Michael Fish!!

Apologies Cortezuk....was so busy waiting for the stage times I forgot to worry about the weather. It is always lovely at EoTR, in 2008 we had a very heavy shower on the friday afternoon, apart from that I only remember sunshine. And it is looking good again for this year.

The festival used to be later, first or even second weekend in Sept, and it was freezing at night. Last year was probably the warmest nights there ever.

So warm enough for shorts during the day, but bring blankets.

I think the weather has always been pretty good.

I remember trudging in wellies in 2008 and the site was abit muddy (nowhere near Glasto proportions). But most years it's been fairly dry, with a good bit of sunshine too. Is worth remembering that by EOTR summer is over and it does get pretty autumnal in the evening. I always take a wooly hat and blankets for the evening. And that it gets dark usually long before the headline act.

Hope you enjoy cortezuk - we started going as a Glasto alternative in 2008 and haven't stopped coming back. (Still going to Glasto mind) :-)

Layers would be my advice. Last year was roasting on the Thursday day time - shorts and vest weather but by the evening it was freezing because the sky was clear.

Thanks Yokel Again for great advice. Thought that I was too old to take on a new festival but been looking at EOTR for a few years and decided to take the plunge - need a smaller chilled event to see how it compares with my love of Glastonbury!

Weather forecasts still looking good - though the need for some good witchcraft is always well received! My 17 year old daughter has just come back from Leeds and despite all the weather mayhem this weekend it looked like she dodged the rain and had good weather!

It doesn't replace Glasto, but is a great alternative. I think we'll probably alternate between the two over the few years, as we now have a sprog in tow and can't afford both in the same year.

It is definitely pretty chilled. The music doesn't really lend itself to moronic behaviour. Compared to Glasto, everything is just very 'easy'.

I'm holding off packing cos I'm still not sure what it's going to be like. Unfortunately I've got to start the journey to EOTR tomorrow night, so I could be all up shit creek without a paddle (or indeed, the right clobber)
