Your Reading/Leeds band ratings

Just wondering what bands people saw and how much they'd give each out of 10. I had a fantastic time this year and thought the lineup turned out to be one of the strongest I'd seen at a festival despite what people said about it before hand. Here's how I'd rate the bands I saw over the weekend:

Leeds

Friday

Crowns (6)

Apologies, I Have None ( 8 )

The Flatliners (4)

Mongol Horde (9)

The Gaslight Anthem (8.5)

The Skints ( 8 )

Bullet For My Valentine (5)

Kaiser Chiefs (7)

The Black Keys (7.5)

Gallows ( 8 )

Foo Fighters (6)

Less Than Jake (9.5)

Saturday

Cancer Bats (7.5)

Coheed And Cambria (5)

Random Hand (8.5)

Angels And Airwaves (3)

The Hives (6)

Touche Amore (9)

Saves The Day (7)

Paramore (7.5) - actually turned out to be pretty good this time

The Cure (10)

Sunday

Pure Love (7.5)

OFWGKTA (7)

Don Broco (6)

Enter Shikari (7.5)

Scroobius Pip (9)

Mastodon ( 8 )

Young Guns (5)

The Cribs (8.5)

At The Drive-In (10)

Bands who I saw who looked good but not enough of to give a fair rating: Polar Bear Club, Mystery Jets, The Shins

Mark Lanegan- 7

SBTRKT- 7

Black Keys- 6

Foo Fighters- 8

Saturday

The Hives- 8

Reading

Friday

Future of the Left - 8.5 - As good as usual, but sagged a little on some of the new tracks

Dead to Me - 6

Fidlar - 8

Random Hand - 7

The Hives - 8.5 - Pelle Almqvist is one of rock's great frontmen, and they know how to put on a performance

Bouncing Souls - 6 - Sound seemed a bit off, and I was definitely disappointed after having high hopes going in

Paramore - 6 - I really like their recorded stuff, but live they just don't seem to cut it

The Cure - 9 - A great, but not outstadning set, though they kept me going for the full 2 and a half hours

Saturday

Green Day - N/A - Didn't bother going in to the tent, so no real rating, but they were great fun to watch on the main stage screens

Los Campesinos! - 9 - Managed to step up to the main stage with ease, and had great sound. Helps that they're one of my favourite acts.

Twin Atlantic - 6.5 - Not bad, but just didn't grab me. Can imagine it was great if you knew their stuff.

OFWGKTA - 6.5 - Watching from towards the back, again, not bad, but didn't seem to be anything special

Enter Shikari - 8.5

Billy Talent - 9 - Definitely much better inside a tent than on the main stage

Mastodon - 8.5

at the drive-in - 8.5

Sunday

Pulled Apart by Horses - 8

Deap Valley - 9 - One of the best new/unknown acts I've seen in the 10 Reading/Leeds festivals that I've attended

Howler - 7

Django Django - 9 - Seriously danceable stuff, and Default is fantastic. Don't think I stopped moving for their entire set

Gaslight Anthem - 7.5 - Sound wasn't great, and I'm just not as big a fan of the newer stuff than I am of Sink or Swim and 59 Sound

Bullet For My Valentine - 7

Kaiser Chiefs - 8.5 - Great fun as a singalong in the afternoon sun

Turbonegro - 8

Foo Fighters - 9 - A great way to end the weekend, though I just didn't have the energy to enjoy it more

Coheed - 7 Chilled at the back, got a great sound

Random Hand - 6

The Hives - 9 One of the best live bands I've ever come across (I'm also a huge fan of them on record)

BBC - 8 Had a great time just chilling and dancing

Graham Coxon - 7

Paramore - 3 Misery business and those trousers only redeeming factor

The Cure -9 Brilliant set it you were a fan (I am), slight lull in the middle though

Saturday

Green Day - 10 Fucking great, got right down the front, was expecting 20 minutes of new songs and got an hour and 10 minute set of awesome songs

Mystery Jets - 9

Odd Future - 3 Didnt work on main stage, rap music for public school kids, mildly entertaining stage antics

The shins - 8 Lovely chilled set, small crowd though

Miike Snow - 8 Loved the first album and got even better live

Billy Talent - 8 Great as always

Kasabian - 10 E-fucking-lectric!

Leeds

Friday:

Crowns 8 - Great Band, seen them before, had a very awkward moment with one in Liverpool in May though!

Apologies, I Have None - 7

Band Of Skulls - 6 - Not my scene at all

Mongol Horde - 8.5 - Great!

Gaslight Anthem - 6 - Mainly cause I fell asleep on the grass and missed the set!

BFMV - 7

Kaiser Chiefs - 7 - Not My Scene but put on a good show

The Black Keys - 9 - Band i was most excited for. Didn't disappoint excited for December.

Foo Fighters - 7 My own fault for not putting enough listening in, but having been in the Arena since 11.15 on 3 hours kip, i just couldn't hack the 2.5 hours and just about made it throough the set.

Saturday:

Hadouken!: 7 - I love a good mosh and dance, so was good, not keen on newer stuff though, ripped my kecks to point where there was more leg on show than jeans.

Random Hand - 10 - What i was most excited for with Black Keys, whilst Black Keys were fucking amazing, Random hand was mental, tunes are great and great vibe! My favourites of the weekend.

Spector - 7 - 3rd time ive seen them now, don't want to lose my interest in them like i have with the Vaccines, better at IOW

The Hives - 7

Graham Coxon - 5 - Just bored me.

The Courteeners - 8 - Always have a great hardcore following. NME was rammed, and they were back to true form.

Foster The People - 9 - Just what i expected after last year, fantastic energy filled effort.

Sunday:

(What a really shit effort this day was by the organisers btw, friday was clash central with Shikari in the day again)

Pure Love - 8

OFWGKTA - 7 - Intrigued to see what the hype was about, all they did was shout nigger for a whole 40 minutes, they were entertaining though, but crowd were the most pretentious ive ever seen, heres the tip... YOU ARENT BLACK STOP TRYING TO BE GHETTO

Billy Talent - 6

Mastodon - 7

Florence - MINUS 10, I'd understand if she had a slot 4 or 5 down, but to warrant getting over an hours slot, for 4-5 good songs is just a farce, shes the most overrated British Musician of ALL time, which annoys me. crowd full of 14 year olds, only reason i saw her is because i couldnt watch the cribs because i knew i couldnt bring myself to leave.

Kasabian - 7 - Great, could only stay up to Take Aim, only criticism was that the set up to then was the same as Nov Arena Tour.

For me to go again they really need to freshen it up.

Friday was literally chocked full of amazing bands on all the stages. Saturday was left bald in areas and Crystal Castles, why do that to them? Dark Arena or not at all. Paramore. again? Snore. The Cure? Should of had smaller set, very boring it seemed.

Interesting to see lineup on 2013, because i know a lot of very disappointed people this year, maybe they'll give us 4 cans of skol ;)

Friday

Spector- 7

Crystal Castles- 3- Absolute rubbish apart from Not In Love. Disappointing because they're awesome on record

Lucy Rose- 7

Passion Pit- 8

Bombay Bicycle Club- 5- 3rd time I've seen them & felt they were a bit off this time. Might have been the crowd/where I was standing, but it just wasn't as good as previous

The Cure- 10- Can't really describe how good that was. Just wow

Saturday

Los Campesinos- 6- Felt sorry for them having to come on when they did

Blood Red Shoes- 6

Twin Atlantic- 9- Stupidly good. Need a higher spot next year

Enter Shikari- 7- Great fun

Vaccines- 8- New tunes went down really well. Album is going to be another good one

Florence- 9

Feeder- 9

Kasabian- 8

Sunday

Howler- 8- Their banter is top notch. Fuck you Max.

Django Django- 7

Tribes- 9

Joy Formidable- 7

Kaiser Chiefs- 8

Black Keys- 8

Foo Fighters- 7- Was clearly a legendary set, and it feels good to have seen it, but they just aren't my thing so couldn't appreciate it fully

Funeral Suits - 6.5 (Great Indie/Electro act)

Future Of The Left - 8.0 (They played Mcluskly!!!)

Hadouken! - 5.0 (Just a bit dull)

Friends - 4.0 (Loved the album, but like they sounded appalling)

Spector - 7.5 (Their songs are a bit bland, but they are a good live act)

The Hives - 9.0 (How can anyone say a bad word about this set)

You Me At Six - 4.5 (I just don't see how they are in any way a good band)

Passion Put - 6.0 (Good band, but lacked a little something live.)

Bombay Bicycle Club - 6.5 (All very pleasant and all, but nothing exciting)

Paramore - 4.0 (Lacked passion and sincerity, and she had fucking stupid eyebrows)

The Cure - 9.5 (Sweet bliss this was amazing. Only ruined because the crowd had prominent c**ts intent on ruining it for everyone else)

Green Day - 8.5 (Great live act, and it was a brilliant moment for the festival)

Post War Glamour Girls - 7.0 (Fucking excellent band)

Blood Red Shoes - 6.0 (Good, but forgettable)

Twin Atlantic - 4.0 (Bland music, and contrived guitar smash)

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All -7.0 (Started slow with bad sound, but once they got into the swing of things it was become a fucking great gig. Security looked utterly powerless, it was fantastic)

The Shins - 5.5 (Bit dull, which is a shame. Small crowd too)

Kid Koala - 9.0 (A genius. 2 decks, stack of vinyl, an asian dude in a Koala suit and SLAYYER)

The Vaccines - 4.5 (Painfully boring band, with boring songs, performing to idiots)

Mastodon - 8.5 (Sludge never sounded better)

At The Drive-In - 10.0 (Weren't on for long but they fucking killed it. A small but passionate crowd. This is what Reading should be, just crowd of people coming together for a love of music. One of the saving graces this year. Perfection)

Crowns - 7.0 (My Kernow boys did me proud!)

Of Monsters And Men - 8.5 (What a gig. Such a huge crowd for the morning. I knew they'd be huge eventually... I'd expect them to be back next year)

Howler - 2.5 (Dumb, and dull. They really didn't seem to give a shit.

Django Django - 6.0 (Great band, translated better live than I thought)

The Gaslight Anthem - 3.5 (BORING)

The Skints - 6.5 (Great band, lame crowd)

Mark Lanegan Band - 7.5 (Shit crowd, and he wasn't given long. Received great reviews from those who showed up though.

Kaiser Chiefs - 5.0 (Chris Moyles?? Fuck that)

The Black Keys - 9.0 (So happy for these guys to have finally made it...)

Foo Fighters - 8.5 (They were good, but 3 hours was more than enough, I kept leaving for other stuff)

Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - 9.0 (Genius.)

FRIDAY

Pulled Apart By Horses - 7.5 (great way to start the festival)

Howler - 7

Gaslight Anthem - 6 (left after 3 songs I was so bored)

Kaiser Chiefs - 8.5 (perfect festival band)

The Black Keys - 8.5 (although i enjoyed it, something was lacking)

Foo Fighters - 9 (only thing stopping from a 10 is the extended solos in every song, talk about dragging things out)

SATURDAY

Funeral Suits - 8.5 (just walked into the tent and they were playing, really enjoyed them)

Spector - 7.5 (great fun, songs aren't the greatest but they're engaging enough)

The Hives - 9 (one of the best bands of the festival)

YM@6 - 6.5 (something lacking)

Bombay - 5 (zzzz)

The Courteeners - 9.5 (amazing crowd, every word to every song was sung back to them. Perfect)

The Cure - 9.5 (it's one of the smallest main stage crowds I've ever seen, I walked from the R1tent at 8.25 and got inside the barrier with no bother. Alot of people missed out, WOW! Reminded me of radiohead in 09, just amazing)

SUNDAY

Jake Bugg - 5 (every song sounded the same)

The Vaccines - 3 (was the 5th time I'd seen them and was by far the worst, was terrible compared to there '11 set. Also why does the singer now talk in a different voice? )

The Cribs - 9.5 (the cribs in a tent, what's not to like!)

Kasabian - 10 (Best band of the festival for me, sounded excellent, great setlist, great crowd. It was the perfect end to the festival)

Thursday

Little Comets - 8 - Liked them, reminded me of a slower TDCC

Friday

Tribes - 7 - What I saw was short but sweet.

The Gaslight Anthem - 8.5 - Loved their set.

All Time Low - 3 - Erm ye...

Bullet For My Valentine - 8 - Never heard them before but I did quite enjoy them.

Kaiser Chiefs - 8 - Haven't listened to them for ages but really enjoyed their set.

The Black Keys - 8.5 - Was expecting a little bit more but still really really good.

Foo Fighters - 9 - Cracking set, full of energy and a awesome atmosphere.

Saturday

The Hives - 9.5 - Just awesome!

Bombay Bicycle Club - 8 - Similar to Black Keys I was just expecting a little bit more.

Graham Coxen - 8.5 - Loved his stuff!

The Courteeners - 8 - Decent set just didn't include some of the classics like Acrylic etc...

The Cure - 10 - AMAZING

Sunday

Mystery Jets - 7 - Areet, not brilliant.

Odd Future - 8.5 - Proper enjoyed their set.

Al Murray - 10 - Not a band but you know!

Santigold - 8 - Watched her set to get out of the rain but actually slightly enjoyed it.

Enter Shikari - 8 - Same as BFMV

The Vaccines - 6 - Still think they're incredibly average.

Florence - 7 - Again, areet, not brilliant.

Kasabian - 10 - Amazing again!

Bassnectar - 8.5 - Was watching him from outside while waiting for friends and loved it!

I'd have seen more bands had it not been for the wonderful stuff that is beer but overall the bands I did see were really good and some were ones i've been wanting to see for years.

Leeds

Friday

Of Monsters and Men - 7 (Great way to open the festival and they played pretty decent)

Band Of Skulls - 3 (Really didn't enjoy them, waited for I Know What I Am then left shortly after)

The Joy Formidable - 8 (Big fan of the first album and the new stuff they played seems pretty good as well)

Kaiser Chiefs - 9 (Not really a fan of them on record but they were amazing live and the crowd was really into it)

The Black Keys - 6 (I love them on record but live they were really lacking and I couldn't wait for them to finish)

Foo Fighters - 7 (only stayed for half the set but they dragged every song on for about 10 minutes)

Justice - 10 (Perfect other than the w*nkers who felt the need to chant "leeds, you what you what" during every single song)

Saturday

Hadouken - 7 (only went to see one song, Mecha Love, which they either didn't play or I missed. The crowd was really into it though so it made it a fun act to see)

Crystal Castles - 8 (First time seeing them, loved the set but couldn't help but think they'd be much more suited to a night time slot in the tent)

Passion Pit - 9 (Their second album is my joint album of the year however I've never really heard their first album but the set was fantastic throughout and I'm going to have to get their first album now)

Paramore - 9 (Seen them before on an arena tour and I wasn't expecting much because of how bad I heard they were last time however they were fantastic and one of my favourite acts of the weekend)

The Cure - 3 (I was really looking forward to The Cure and I've tried getting into them a lot the last few months however a few months was not enough time to prepare for this mammoth set, I only knew about 15 songs played. The other 20 I didn't have a clue so I was just stood there motionless with the other 95% of the tiny crowd. Don't get me wrong they played amazing however the amount of songs played, the tiny crowd and how bored that crowd was made it one of the worst acts I've ever seen live)

Sunday

Grimes - 9 (Amazing and I got a free t-shirt)

Enter Shikari - 4 (I enjoyed them last year but for some reason this year they bored me and I ended up walking off 4 songs into the set)

Feeder - 9 (I didn't get to see the full set because I was leaving early for At The Drive-In but what I did see was phenomenal, the tent was packed full of big fans so the atmosphere was fantastic)

At The Drive-In - 10 (Small crowd but a dedicated crowd, everybody was going nuts and the band played amazing, would absolutely love to see them again if they don't break up)

Friday:

Funeral Suits - 6.5 (solid opening to the weekend)

Marsica - 7 (very enjoyable, look forward to seeing them on a bigger stage in years to come)

Deaf Havana - 7 (good fun, good banter)

Cancer Bats - 6 (bit dull, not very memorable)

Coheed and Cambria - 6 (as above, greatest entertainment came from singer's fascinating hair)

Angels and Airwaves - 7 (much improved on their previous appearance)

The Hives - 9.5 (one of the highlights of the weekend, summed up why I love live music)

Crystal Castles - 5 (only saw a few songs, but I'm afraid I don't see the appeal)

You Me at Six - 4 (generously awarded, only because without them we couldn't have had the text to the big screen saying 'they're taking You Me At Six to Isengard!')

Bombay Bicycle Club - 5 (no energy, felt very disinterested)

Paramore - 5 (insincere at times, and little that made it different or better than 2010)

The Cure - 8.5 (excellent performance by some talented musicians, though maybe a little too long as a set)

Saturday:

Green Day - 9.5 (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay-oooooooooooooh - lots of fun and one of my favourite bands)

Post-War Glamour Girls - 6 (solid but not exciting)

Pure Love - 7 (shows an impressive level of variation in Carter's voice and writing compared to the all out assault that is/was Gallows)

Twin Atlantic - 7 (catchy tunes compensating for lack of artistic value)

Dry the River - 9 (love this band, saw them on FR last year, great live performance - I hope they continue to go from strength to strength)

The Shins - 4 (not particularly memorable)

Max Raptor - 6 (only saw two songs, but were solid enough)

Dog is Dead - 7 (got the crowd going and look like a band that will get bigger)

The Vaccines - 8 (future headliner based on the quality and popularity of their performance)

Young Guns - 5 (crowd loved it, but I didn't)

Feeder - 8 (chiseled live act, good tunes and great fun)

Kasabian - 7 (much better than I expected, the older hits were the highlight)

Sunday;

L.A. - 6.5 (not that memorable, but a pleasant start to the day)

Pulled Apart by Horses - 7 (love their energy levels, hope they keep getting bigger and better)

Band of Skulls - 5 (not awful, but couldn't help but wish I'd gone somewhere else)

Mongol Horde - 6 (different, but think FT is better sticking with the acoustic)

Gaslight Anthem - 7.5 (seemed to be much more into it than previous appearance)

All Time Low - 5 (only real highlight was the Blink cover)

Bullet For My Valentine - 7 (injected some much needed energy)

Kaiser Chiefs - 8 (lots of hits, lots of fun, and love that Pinball Wizard cover)

The Black Keys - 9 (cannot say enough good things about this band)

Foo Fighters - 9.5 (would have liked longer, but loved every second)

Reading Festival:

Friday:

Deaf Havana - 7 Mate I went with is cousins with the guitarist and it was really special seeing them on the main stage, totally misjudged how big a crowd they'd get and was quite far at the back while my mate was right at the front.

Hadouken - 1 Worse show I'd ever seen, got dragged along to them and all it felt like was some nobhead shouting at the crowd

Coheed And Cambria- 3 Fun for about a minute, then just got boring, left half way through.

Alt-J BBC Introducing Set - 5 Got a big crowd, Tesselate was good but the rest was a bit flat, made up my mind to give them a miss later.

The Hives - 8 Went along by myself as everyone thought they are a gimmick, so much energy in their performance, great fun.

Scroobius Pip - 8 The guy's a genius

Bombay Bicycle Club - 8 Great fun even from right at the back where I was surrounded by people sitting down giving me bemused looks at my dancing

The Courteeners - 7 Went to see them in order to get a good spot for Foster the People and Maccabees and was really impressed, really good songs and a crazy crowd

Foster The People - 6 One of the bands I was most excited for, didn't expect it to get so violent and could barely see the band even from the front, getting on someone's shoulders for Pumped Up Kicks saved it for me though

Maccabees - 8 Didn't disappoint, so atmospheric, gonna be one of the bands of my generation

Saw the Cure earlier on this summer so didn't see them.

Saturday:

Los Campesinos! - 9 Favourite band ever and I loved every minute, just wished the rest of the crowd had heard of them, was right at the front and it felt like there were only three of us dancing

Mystery Jets - 7 Gutted I missed Seretonin but loved Two Doors Down

Dry The River - 9 Most beautiful band of the weekend

The Vaccines - 3 Absolute let down, don't get all the fuss about them

Young Guns - 6 Never heard them before but had a crazy crowd

Feeder - 10 Loved them since I was 9 and to finally see them play in such an intimate tent was so special

Kasabian - 7 Caught them from the back and thought they but on a good show

Sunday:

Of Monsters And Men - 8 Would have been a 9 had I not missed Dirty Paws gonna be a massive band

Band Of Skulls - 6 Love the band but I thought the rest of the crowd just didn't give a shit about them

Django Django - 5 Ok, nothing special

Tribes - 8 Love the band and was so happy to see them get a good crowd

Joy Formidible - 6 Crazy, would be a higher rating but I missed Whirring to go to the singing tent

Kaiser Chiefs - 5 All felt like Ricky Wilson thought he was performing at T4 on the Beach

Black Keys - 8 Incredible band, just wish the crowd new all their songs, people were staring at for singing along to Nova Baby and complaining that they finished on a song (I Got Mine) that no one had heard of

Foo Fighters - 9 Simply Epic, great way to finish the festival
