PastCaring
Dizzee definitely did NOT headline Glastonbury and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only festival Editors have headlined is Werchter (plus it says on the site that they're playing early afternoon which is where they played at Reading/Leeds last time they toured properly). As for the four stages, don't they only have four major stages anyway? Main, Arena, World and A38. If they're sticking to metal on Day 0 there's no reason for them to have the metal acts announced yet. The only major negative for me really is the crappy pop acts like Katy B and Dizzee getting announced. I'd much rather other acts were in their slots, but at least Dizzee is entertaining live and is probably a decent early-main stage addition. It's a bit pointless complaining about dance acts being announced when, frankly, that's where a lot of the most interesting break-through music is being made at the moment Neil Young has been announced for Way Out West. Has to be a possibility now
edfirth
I'd love SOAD too (in terms of headliners I think maybe only Jamiroquai can compete in terms of who I'd want and Jamiroquai aren't touring) but I don't think SOAD with play. I read somewhere that the Hungarian president ordered the beheading of an Armenian soldier or something like that, which could be a reason for them not doing so. But that may have been pure speculation and I still think they could play in theory

edfirth
Leeds announcing a load of good bands today. So far I'd take the following at Sziget: Biffy Clyro, System of a Down, Phoenix, Disclosure, City & Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day (I couldn't care less but my cousin is coming and he loves them), Deftones, Frank Turner, Skrillex, Sub Focus, Eminem, Foals, Alt-J, New Found Glory (for the girlfriend) Some of those I wouldn't be that fussed about but would watch out of interest. There's also quite a bit that's already at Sziget including Hadouken!, Editors, Azealia Banks, Alex Clare, Chase & Status and Tame Impala, which suggests there could be a lot more Leeds bands at Sziget (given that Leeds is announcing it's big bands and Sziget has announced it's small ones, there are a lot of similarities there) Edited March 11, 2013 by edfirth

edfirth
I like a lot of the Balkan stuff. I saw Boban i Marko Markovic at ATP a couple of years ago and really enjoyed them. Very much looking forward to the festival, I only really needed a couple of bands to look forward to in the tents at night, I can spend the rest of the time at the World stage and will probably only visit the Main Stage for the headliners unless anyone particularly good gets announced. purplefluff
Doubt a lot of people here will be too excited by this but the B-52s last played in 2010 and they are touring again in 2013 and have August 10 blocked out as "TBA" on their website so they are a maybe. I'd go to see them, nice pop band for an afternoon at Sziget!
ro55en
After Leeds & Reading - Pukkelpop also announced Eminem, NIN, Deftones but also Bat for Lashes, Franz, XX etc. Most probably these will be the bands at the Sziget's main stage. Cristall
A lot of news on the Sziget Facebook:NEW PROGRAMMES & VENUES – FROM SZIGET BEACH TO THE COLOUR PARTYSziget, The Festival Island, is proud to present its new venue, the SZIGET BEACH. In the previous years it was strictly forbidden to swim in the Danube due to safety reasons, however this year – thanks to new developments – it will be allowed to refresh at the beach. The Sziget Beach will await the inhabitants with infrastructure and bars, even at night in the theme of the Full Moon parties of the Far-East.SZIGET EYE, the ferris wheel of the festival, will be twenty meters bigger than last year, thus the event will have one of the biggest travelling ferris wheels of the world. A 60-meter gigantic wheel will take the guests up high, while at night it will be dressed up in colors and projections, in this way becoming literally one of the biggest attractions of the festival. Sziget is not only a music festival, but a huge artistic gathering as well. The GIANT STREET THEATRE will arrive this year from one of the most far away continents, where people live together with kangaroos and koalas. We cannot tell their name yet, but we can state that they are world-famous and their monumental and breath-taking production could be seen not once, but three times a day! During their walks at Sziget, the inhabitants can meet people in weird dresses, characters from tales and creatures popping out from our fantasy world. This year Sziget will host very colourful STREET THEATRE productions from all over the world: from the land of Maoris to Australia, from India to the Great Wall of China and from many European countries. Reminding of a travelling circus from the 1890s, both in terms of visuals and programmes, the new CIRCUS venue will host circus shows. This will be the home for the exclusive show of Recirquel and many other amazing and cannot-miss productions. The EASTERN-EUROPEAN FUNFAIR will await those who are willing to emigrate back in time with the already known playful methods. The theme this year is the hippie world of the 60s and 70s. The freedom and peace movements will be linked together with The Festival Island’s philosophy of freedom: long hair, skinny jeans, peace & love! In the clothes factory of the Eastern-European Funfair inhabitants will be able to make their own festival outfit expressing their freedom. The new RUIN PUBS QUARTER will not only strengthen the event with a unique choice for catering, but it will be worth seeing as it will create a special and exclusive atmosphere. The most exciting of the famous ruin bars of Budapest will settle down on Sziget to make it a more vibrant place for a week. Two former venues will have a comeback this year. Playing live Irish music and recalling the best songs of music idols, the IRISH PUB STAGE and the TRIBUTE STAGE are going to be two of the many hot spots of Sziget. Last year’s venue, the COLOSSEUM, will have double size and double function this year. It will not only host the parties of the former Meduza tent, but it will be home for a brand new programme, the COLOUR PARTY. In the frame of a huge gathering, the audience will transform the location into a colour orgy, as they could throw colour powder patrons of all colours in the air, colouring up the location and the party. SERVICES – A PREMIUM FESTIVAL, SUPPLYING THE BEST OF EVERYTHING Comparing the festival services in the international festival scene, Sziget is highly outstanding, according to the feedback of the many international guests. However there is always room to improve, so the festival organisers constantly focus on strengthening this segment as well. There will be a spectacular development of the hygienic services. Most of the new bio toilets will await the inhabitants of The Festival Island. They will be found grouped together, with lighting and constant cleaning services. There will be more and significantly comfortable showering possibilities, together with dressing rooms equipped with lockers, a comfy waiting room and make-up room as well. The catering services will also improve, as the organisers will make sure that the food stalls are the best in quality and looks with the well-known diversity of a global cuisine. Next to the playground of Sziget, one will find the “FAMILY CAMPING”, where the families with children can find services suitable for them, with play place for kids and programmes for the smallest inhabitants. Last but not least: CITYPASS has been a popular service of the festival for two years now and it will be back this year! With the Citypass the guests can use public transportation for free and can use Budapest-related services for discounted prices or free of charge. More information on Citypass will come soon. For more info & tickets:http://www.szigetfest.co.uk/http://www.szigetfestival.nl/THE VISUALS, A SPECTACULAR END SHOW & MOREWhile Sziget is working on being diverse and exciting music-wise and when it comes to non-musical cultural programmes, there has always been a tendency to create a special atmosphere, experimenting with lights and installations. For instance the Luminarium, the Tarot Labyrinth and the Cökxpon locations or the mood lightning of the lampions or the amazing street theatres are such important elements of the Sziget atmosphere. In the previous years the trend has shown that there is a greater emphasis on the visuals of the international festivals. In line with this trend, Sziget has always focussed on improving the spectacle and a lot of energy and resources have been allocated for this cause. There have been many projects as the Colosseum, the Hungaricum Village, the Luminarium and the Eastern-European Funfair, but there was room for the installations of the Hello Wood and Medence groups as well. Year by year the number of these activities have increased. Last year there even was a giant ferris wheel, the Sziget Eye, lit up with special projections. This year the organisers have decided to dream even bigger and to develop Sziget to be an artistic product. Sziget will have more installations, sculptures, lightning that could be interpreted in a cultural sense as well. One of the most important parts of this concept will be the END SHOW, for the first time. As its name states, it will be the final act of the one week of fun. So, on Sunday, on the Main Stage, Sziget will end with a very exciting show full of fireworks, pyrotechnics, laser shows and other special effects. The music during the show will be played by one of the best-known DJ-producers nowadays, DAVID GUETTA. The atmosphere for this ‘experience-festival’ will be supported by the lights during the nights as well. Trees will dress up in X-mas lightning and the number of lampions will increase. There will also be a so called DISCO PARK, in the forest near the Main Stage, where ‘disco lights’, light bulbs and stroboscopes will lighten up the nature to create a great party feeling. A new location this year will be the FREAK PARK, close to the entrance at the K-Bridge. This part will be specially lighted and will be gloomed with the help of mist machines. Uncle Liam
So David Guetta is the Sunday mainstage headliner? Great. Not.
Cristall
Not the greatest headliner indeed, but I guess the show will be fun. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, laser shows and other special effects sounds good to me.
PastCaring
It's been interesting, over the past few weeks, to watch the way in which the Sziget organisers have been trying to promote the festival as an 'experience', when it's been only too obvious that fairly drastic economies are being made! (Can't help wondering just how much money they actually did lose on booking Prince the other year!?!) However, replacing the Sunday mainstage headliner with a DJ and a lightshow just takes the biscuit!!! I'll be very interesting to see what else they come up with! Just very glad at the moment that I haven't paid for a ticket!
edfirth
They didn't sell it as a headliner, they called it an 'end show' (so he might not be), but either way, he's massive, even if I'm not a big fan myself. He's bigger than a lot of their headliners in the past, and I think with the concept they were going for they were much better using a DJ. I like the idea myself
Cristall
Surely Guetta is a lot bigger than White Lies, the Sunday mainstage headliner two years ago. Although not the kind of act I was hoping for either, I am getting excited about his show now and not only for the fireworks and other effects. edfirth
I think the Osheaga and Lollapalooza line ups could have a big bearing on Sziget. Only Azealia Banks of the current acts is on either line up, so I guess a lot of the bands could be ruled out http://lineup.osheaga.com/ http://www.spinner.com/2013/03/28/lollapalooza-2013-lineup-report/ Unfortunately this involves Phoenix, Kendrick Lamar, Jessie Ware, Alt-J, Silversun Pickups, Hot Chip, Queens of the Stone Age (which we knew anyway) and Nine Inch Nails (as well as many others) seeming less likely to play Edited March 29, 2013 by edfirth
Cristall
Even unlikelier than acts going to Sziget after Lollapalooza or Osheaga would be for acts to combine Sziget with Squamish (8-10 August, Canada), Outside Lands (9-11, USA), or Summer Sonic (10-11 August, Japan). Squamish: Queens Of The Stone Age, Vampire Weekend, Band Of Horses, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Gogol Bordello, Young The Giant, Dan Mangan, Divine Fits, Pretty Lights, Jurassic 5 and more. Outside Lands hasn't released any line up info yet, but it'll probably have some big names. Summer Sonic: Metallica, Muse, Linkin Park, Pet Shop Boys, Beady Eye, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fall Out Boy, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Stone Roses, Cheap Trick, Cyndi Lauper, M.I.A., Two Door Cinema Club, Stereophonics, John Legend, Bullet For My Valentine, Zebrahead, Mew, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Weeknd, Hot Chelle Rae, Jake Bugg, Palma Violets, Alt-J, Peace, Kodaline, Imagine Dragons, Chvrches, The Royal Concept, Bastille, Willy Moon. edfirth
List of possible headliners on Sziget news page inc. Jamiroquai (didn't even know they were touring!), Nick Cave (more likely to be a sub headliner for me), Biffy Clyro, Franz Ferdinand, Kraftwerk, Kings of Leon, Eminem, Iggy Pop (can't see that happening), Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Florence & the Machine, Arctic Monkeys and Iron Maiden I've thought Kings of Leon were likely from day one and I am warming to the idea. Even though I've seen them loads before and their last two albums were shocking, they are always good live and as long as they play loads of stuff from the first three albums I'd enjoy it Jamiroquai I would still not be confident about but they are basically my dream headliner. Not going to get excited unless they get announced as they don't really play that many shows Of the others I wouldn't mind Arctic Monkeys, Kraftwerk or Eminem and Green Day would make my cousin very happy but wouldn't bother me Edited March 30, 2013 by edfirth
