Sziget 2013

@Uncle Liam - Thanks for that, could you be a bit more specific? I went last year and had a wander round the main market areas & camping once the main stages had finished but couldn't see anything much going on. There were stalls & stuff open but nowhere that people were congregating for a party and no "amplified music" (as the government would put it!)

I'm thinking something like a specific area, like shangri la is at Glastonbury - is there a stage that stays open or an area that has DJ's or acts/caberet going on?

Thanks in advance!

I'm feeling seriously underwhelmed for sziget now, maybe it's my own fault but i keep looking on the facebook sziget page and all i keep seeing is moan moan moan about this years lineup, and the delay in announcing the acts. It's my first time at the festival, and i'm going with my mates from home, but i keep reading all these depressing messages online about the festival is turning into a shambles; RIP Sziget etc, and tbf, when you look at who is headlining, its very unappealing for the hard rockers, for someone like me who loves drum and bass, dubstep etc the lineup is mouthwatering. I want some enthusiasm, some positivity and its hard to find any on what should be one of the most intriguing festivals out there!

The line up this year is disappointing for big name acts but still really looking forward to it . The atmosphere is great its really well organized .lots of different bands to discover .Also plenty to see and to in Budapest its self. So yes lets be positive and party.!!

The headliner section of the lineup is mediocre this year, but Sziget never was a headliner focused festival to begin with.

My A-list schedule already has quite a few clashes: (in case of conflict, likely choice remains bold)

Aug 7:

17.45 Skunk Anansie (main)

18.15 La Pegatina (world)

19.30 Die Ärtze (main)

19.45 Dubioza Kolektiv (world)

19.50 Flogging Molly (A38)

21.40 Deichkind (A38)

22.30 Bat For Lashes (A38)

Aug 8:

17.45 Dizzee Rascal (main)

19.30 Ska-P (main)

19.30 Nero (Arena)

19.45 Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra (world)

21.30 Biffy Clyro (main)

01.00 Kees van Hondt (A38)

Aug 9:

16.30 Skip&Die (A38)

19.30 Seeed (main)

21.30 Blur (main)

21.30 Emir Kusturica (world)

Aug 10:

16.00 Enter Shikari (main)

17.45 Editors (main)

18.15 Söndörgo (world)

21.30 Leningrad (world)

21.40 Hadouken! (A38)

22.30 Parov Stelar Band (A38)

04.00 Noisa (A38)

Aug 11:

16.30 The Bots (A38)

18.15 Figli di Madre Ignota (world)

19.45 Besh O Drom (world)

22.30 Katy B (A38)

01.00 Netsky (A38)

01.00 Boys Noize (Arena)

02.30 Camo & Krooked (A38)

Thursday and Friday look like slow days for me, then again this is just my A-list so I'm sure a good Spotify session can fill up the gaps. Or else a nice steak zöldbors mártással downtown. :)

Will be interesting to see the knock on effect of all this. I would imagine that early bird ticket sales for next year will be effected. Hopefully, however, the organisers will have learnt something here, and will make some changes for the better for 2014.

It's interesting how this forum and the comment thread on the Sziget News poll is so very negative. Fifteen thousand Dutchies like me are going again and I haven't heard from a single person that they feel robbed. "The lineup could be better" is the worst I've heard, everyone else is just saying "party week, looking forward to it"!

Maybe it's a Dutch thing to not focus on headliners or lineup too much, trusting that all the shit you haven't heard a million times is just as entertaining if not more so?

Yes, but you Dutchies love your dance & electronica, don't you? The line up this year must seem quite good, if that's your thing. Us Brits have a strong tradition for liking guitar based music, which, at a festival, would translate as live bands ....

There's a large electronic following here, but overall I would say we are very broad in our tastes and what we like in festivals mostly is the variety. Sziget offers that even with a less stellar lineup. Just check my schedule on the previous page, that's a musical tutti frutti and hardly any moment where I don't have anything I fancy seeing.

I agree that if you solely like guitars the disappointment can be there, if you seek live bands just come hang with me at the world music stage and you'll be entertained for sure.

I also agree live bands are bigger in the UK, I've seen plenty there (from Glasgow to Pompey and probably all venues in London bar O2)... :)
