nigeyb
Very, very happy with David Byrne and St Vincent. I really liked that album - but more importantly David Byrne sums up all that is great about music and is a perfect fit with EOTR. This has made me feel very happy and excited. Bo Ningen, Evening Hymns, Heartless Bastards, Matthew E. White, Wolf Alice, Mark Mulcahy, Policia, Golden Fable, efterlklang, Teleman, Diana Jones, Caitlin Rose, Jens Lekman, Laish, Widowspeak, Money, Merchandise, Frightened Rabbit, Pins, Savages, David Byne and St Vincent....yay! Did I get them all? Edited February 13, 2013 by nigeyb

captain haddock
Feeling underwhelmed by the artists announced so far, especially by the headliners. Hope there's many more to come, especially to fill the evening slots for the garden stage. We've got tickets already and so far I'm looking forward to the beer and the kedgeree most. Need to explore the bands I don't know.
wackojackohighcliffe
Frightened Rabbit, Efterklang, Jens Lekman, Polica, Bo Ningen = sick! The lineup this year is good so far, hopefully they add some more guys like they did Phosphorescent and Okkervil River in previous years. nigeyb
Of this little lot the ones I know and like, with my excitement rating out of 5 are... DB & St Vincent 5* Efterklang 3* Polica 4* Matthew E White 4* Savages 4* Teleman 3* All the rest I either don't know, or only know very vaguely - and that's the great thing about EOTR, it's a voyage of discovery. I'll be putting together another mix of all these artists and uploading to MixCloud for anyone that wants to listen. I did one for the first bands which is here. I'll add a post once I've done the second one - probably take a couple of weeks.

Nigey_boy
"It really is underwhelming the more I look at it" I think the line up so far is quite the opposite...lots of innovative and very interesting artists

shoebox
That's a pretty killer announcement to come of a morning of meetings to. This a fantastic, diverse line-up and that's what I love about EOTR. Jens Motherflippin' Lekman, man! Well happy with that. Roll on September! ljsawyer
Predictable in what sense? Definitely the most diverse announcement they've made in a long time - personally very happy with it! In fact, the more I look at it, the better it gets. nigeyb
I don't see it as predictable at all. I would never have predicted half of those artists (if I'd even heard of them all). Here's a challenge for anyone that thinks it's predictable - make a prediction for the next group of artists to be announced and let's see how close you get. Underwhelming? Perhaps, but then again the festival doesn't sell itself on the star power of its line up. This will be my sixth EOTR, and my perception is that the festival now has a pretty large core of people who come back year after year because they know it's reliably a great experience - irrespective of who is on the bill. By which I mean that EOTR is more than the sum of it's line up - and that's what they were always trying to achieve. The question to ask yourself is "Was I underwhelmed afterwards?". The numbers of people who come back year after year suggests that for many (most?) the answer is "No". It seems to me it's a very EOTR type of line up.. a mix of the obscure, the up and coming, the esoteric cult artist, and the established. Bring it on. wolfamongwolves
Predictable in the sense that some have played before, Caitlin rose, Bo ningen, efterklang, I like them but its nice to see something new. Has much as I like David byrne & St vincent. They have one album of material. Justified headliners I'm not so sure. But that's just my opinion. Deerhunter would have been a surprise, animal collective, sufjan Stevens , bonnie prince billy would have been a surprise. Bpb! could have done a song off every album he has made. Just my opinion and I'm allowed that. This is my sixth eotr and I do love it. But you have not got to agree with every announcement they make. zahidf
Setlist from Jan. A fair bit of talking heads and St Vincent stuff http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/david-byrne-and-st-vincent/2013/princes-wharf-1-hobart-australia-7bdb922c.html
shoebox
Fleet Foxes headlined to a capacity crowd off the back of one album. The volume of your work should not determine your headline status. Plus, I'm sure David Byrne and St Vincent will play combination of that album and their own individual work. There are constantly artists coming back to EOTR, and we've all got own favourites that we love to see return. You've listed 3 that have played before, but would you have predicted that ANY of them would return this year? There's been very little anyone could have predicted this year around. Sure, some may be disappointed by who's headlining, but judging by the reactions to both line-up announcements on Twitter, I would say that they'll have no trouble selling out the festival this year. Personally I love it. Lots of bands I love and haven't seen live in a long time, lots of new discoveries, a whole mixture of musical styles. It's everything I could hope for. shoebox
Oh man! How good is it going to be, singing along to Road To Nowhere? Seriously? That could be a festival moment right there.
eFestivals
Has much as I like David byrne & St vincent. They have one album of material. Justified headliners I'm not so sure.while I've not seen a setlist of their shows, when the first shows were announced, Byrne sent a message to his mailing list saying the shows would be (something like) "songs from the album plus other songs you'll know" - so presumably there's a number of DB/Talking Heads songs in the set, and possible some St Vincent stuff too. They don't have much material together, but Byrne has a massive list of the best songs ever written. You won't be shorted on quality or quantity, you can be certain.

That could be a festival moment right there.forget the horrible horrible Road to Nowhere, the set has 'This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)' in it - to my mind the best song ever written, and one I've yet to see Byrne play live. wolfamongwolves
Well said, like you say end of the road is not just about the music. It is such a wonderful place. I took my mom who is 63 the first year I went as did not want to be on my home. She has not missed a year since she loves it as much as me. Leave her by the garden stage by tea stall and she is happy as Larry. Early birds every year she nags me till I get them. She loves tindersticks and explosions in the sky .
