Remember that Sony know how to bullshit.

People seem to forget what was promised for the PS2 and PS3 and what actually happened.

Very few developers will be able to do anything approaching what they're promising. I fear what will happen is more developers will go under and those that are left will bloat to unbelievable sizes in order to finish their games. More outsourcing, less creative input, more unpaid overtime, more crunch and far worse working conditions for those that make them. It will be dominated by big business completely. Just to deliver the newest shiny thing. Some new IP will emerge but it will be more of the same; big brand sequels and/or reboots of wavering brands. There will be an exodus of talent this generation and an influx of naive fresh slaves from developing countries to replace them as the work will resemble factory production lines and the art is killed by the economics. Fucking spectacular. That's what AAA will mean this gen.

I think a lot of current people in games dev will go indie, and off the (severely) beaten track.

That's my prediction: more of the same, just a bit worse.

The bits I have seen aren't that impressive tbh, its just more polygons. There isnt really that much they can do differently. And remember folks Killzone 2 "looked awesome" when it was announced, and look what a grey, drab, repetitive corridor shooter that turned out to be.

In a world where people still frustrate me because they claim they cant tell the difference between SD telly and HD telly, is the mass market really that keen?

Particularly with the financial climate the way it is?

I'm considering rebuying (would be my 3rd) PS3 when the price falls on its arse (which should be soon).

Thats been confirmed by sony, it will play used games. Graphics etc im not as massively bothered about as the features touted, vert impressive, I hope for a huge hd, shopto have started taking orders at £399, which is a bit too high when it was said it could launch at £299.

Still im very excited in the future of gaming. It just looks fun

I thought it was very good - the graphics jump is pretty tame but I think we all knew that - they can only go so far right? Still they looked a good step up, and Sony never went all out on the GRAPHICS GRAPHICS GRAPHICS line for their consoles selling points anyway. They had a huge focus on the other featuresets that come with a new console - all the online streaming stuff, instant boot ups, Cloud, background downloading, Vita streaming etc. I kinda already these next consoles werent gonna be an SD to HD type leap so maybe my expectations were lower - but what I did see I liked.

Good starts for games - didn't have a clue what they'd do with InFamous given the seconds ending but the new one looked awesome. All the Sony games did and they were prettty broad range of genre / style. Third party stuff was cool too - albeit I'd guess a lot are holding out for E3. The fact Sony got Jonathon Blow up and had a section dedicated to 'indie' games is pretty huge imo too, shows how much focus there is on that side of the market too. From what I've heard Sony have made huge strides in relations with indie devs and I hope it goes further with PS4 - especially as thats somewhere Microsoft seems archaic. Still a while off doing what Steam does mind you.

I'll definitely pick one up on launch, excited for E3 now.

YAY Social Media on my console!! For fecks sake, i was left disappointed, it seemed to be more about how good the social media interaction would be and trying to make out Sony is at the forefront of "gaming social media", maybe its just I am a PC gamer mainly and most of what was announced (even graphics) has already been done tbh.

Thought it was lame, nothing that exciting at all and not even an actual look at the box :P I hope Microsoft has something actually exciting to say when they announce the next xbox but i doubt that to. (Aside from integrated Kinect.)

Also I don't really understand this concept of Driveclub, just seemed weird to me.

The PS4 Announcement...

I Liked

  • the control. Seemed a bit 'beefier' so will sit nicely in the hand and like the new added features.
  • graphics and tech. The age old 'not as good as PC'. Away with you, I'd rather not spend that money. If rumours are true the PS4 will be as low as £300(I'd say £350), that is amazing value if true.
  • games. Infamous: Second Son, Beyond Two Souls, Watchdog and Destiny... and although I wouldn't use it that Media Molecule putty thing using the Move was pretty cool also(yes I know they are not all new announcements or exclusives).
  • Cloud based PS3, PS2 and PS1 games
  • The old man face haha
  • PS4 games being remotely played by Vita
  • Promise of no loading times
  • Background downloads(in game demo, while actual game downloads in background)

I Did Not Like

  • Never mentioned locking games to consoles which means they will!
  • The Witness, Deep Down, Diablo 3 and Final Fantasy(will prefer to play old ones!)
  • Square Enix's over the top video, meh

At First I Was One Way But Then Thought About It

  • PS4 announcement with no PS4...but do I actually care what it looks like? It will be black and the size anything up to my Sky box so meh. Maybe they are not quite finished...or maybe they are holding back for Xbox?
  • The whole cloud based thing is a double edged sword as many don't have a decent enough connection
  • The whole 'social' thing, not gonna be used much by me but doesn't mean it doesn't have its place

I'm really interested to see what Xbox come up with because I think it appears Sony learnt from their mistakes last time and will want a US Christmas release at a decent price. They have enough there for hardcore gamers and enough for casual and social types.

Anyone think Microsoft will slip up?

I really didn't like the PS3 and after loving the PS2 that was a damn shame. Love my 360 because it seems more like a games machine where the PS3 seemed more like a hyped up blu ray player. Not interested in the PS4 from what I've seen so really hoping Microsoft come out with something that piques my interest or else I'll be sticking with ym 360 and Wii U for some time yet!

Never seen the difference between a PS3 and Xbox tbh, get by the home screens and they play the same games at the same technical level. Although my Xbox is and has been in the cupboard for years.
