Apparently both Avengers 2 and the new X-Men films will have Quicksilver in them but in Avengers he can't be a mutant, called Quicksilver or have Magneto as his Dad and in X-Men he can't be called Pietro Maximoff or mention he is/was part of the Avengers as they are being made by different studios.

Bah, skint, have to wait til payday, then there are higher priorities (glastonbury) so I'll just cave into temptation and watch the first decent version to hit the net. I really wanted to see it all guns blazing at the pictures though.

Orange Wednesday?

It's the only time I can ever afford to see films at the cinema!

I'd recommend signing up to Showfilmfirst and Free Movies UK (and subscribing to the free films forum). I've managed to get tickets to Star Trek 2, Life of Pi, End of Watch, Argo, Ted, Drive, 21 Jump Street and The Raid among others. There's a lot of rubbish gets put on there but I usually manage to get a "decent" film a month

Even so. I think the widespread word on the street was that it was gonna be a huge turkey.

My point was that the opinion of one person doesn't change the fact it could still be a turkey. A guy I worked with saw a preview of John Carter and raved about it and its now the biggest box office flop of all time

Flop doesn't equal bad movie tho, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory was a box office flop to the extent the studio didn't bother keeping the distribution rights to it yet it considered a classic now.

John Carter is no where near the biggest flop of all time, it did about £300m but the problem was it cost £200m to make and films of those budgets are meant to be making billions. The biggest flop of all time is still Cutthroat Island.

Ah, thought it did worse than that. Did make a pretty hefty loss due to the costs of marketing.

Obviously there are gonna be shit films that make massive profits and great films that will make a loss

If you're gonna include marketing costs then you may as well include TV rights and dvd sales and it will still probably make a profit.

I'm not actually a fan of John Carter by the way, I watched 10mins of it and it looked stupid but I remember reading an article what happened with it.

Decided to stay in this weekend and watch loads of movies (gotta save up for glasto ;)) ... I've been busy with a lot of other stuff for the past like 9 months so haven't watched many movies at all.. any recommendations? Preferably from the past year but I'm open to whatever :)

Cheers

Waterworld?

Waterworld had a great critical mauling - but actually spun a profit!!

It certainly did horribly in US cinemas, but worldwide it was a hit (I saw it in a packed theatre) which stemmed the losses and by the time it hit video (as it was then) turned it into an outright profit.

Budget $175m

Box Office $265m (does not include video and DVD sales)
