When my daughters were youg they were scared of spiders, particularly daddy longlegs.  One day they found one in the bath and screamed. "Don't worry," I said. "That's my pet Boris."  At which point I cupped him in my hands and dropped him out of the window to their relief.  Ever since, spiders have been known in our family as Borises.

I hope you had a good birthday break with Mrs D, though beware when you become a retired old fart like me there's no such thing as a day off.  Mrs GH expects me to be working every day around the house or in the garden.  When my dad retired my mum kept him so busy that he said before retirement he couldn't figure out how he managed to fit in going to work.
