Word Association Game

Scissors, I know they're pop but can't help liking them in a strange way, think it's the energy or something, anyway this is understated and quite nice im humble o! From the Basement, quite a good music show on Sky Arts.

This is the one I was looking for, the backing singers towards the end reminds me of that bit in Dark Side of the Moon (the female solo) that just blows me away every time. Oh and a bunch of Redheads helps, some Bee Gee harmony here as well.

Cut

This is the great P.P. Arnold, who started life as a backing singer with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue and then became part of the Immediate Record stable as a backing singer but had a great voice in her own right.

This is P.P. really adding to Tin Soldier by the Small Faces.

Stripes,

Giving me the chance to mention the Michel Gondry video, maybe he's better known for the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, great movie, particularly liked seeing Jim Carey playing a straight role instead of his usual typecast fool. Oh and the Chemical Brothers vid for Let Forever Be.

Burst

IC 342 would be a prominent galaxy in our night sky, but it is hidden from clear view and only glimpsed through the veil of stars, gas and dust clouds along the plane of our own Milky Way galaxy. Even though IC 342's light is dimmed by intervening cosmic clouds, this deep telescopic image traces the galaxy's obscuring dust, blue star clusters, and glowing pink star forming regions along spiral arms that wind far from the galaxy's core. IC 342 may have undergone a recent burst of star formation activity and is close enough to have gravitationally influenced the evolution of the local group of galaxies and the Milky Way.

When I was a kid/wannbee drummer I used to love this track along with drum marathons like this. Finally saw Arthur Lee at Glasto.

Boards

Using footage of Joseph Kittingers 19 mile freefall descent from space in 1960 & some superb surfer footage. Kittinger held the record for 52 years, only recently beaten by Felix Baumgartner. Not to take anything away from that later record beating feat of 24 miles but technology was on his side a lot more than for Mr Kittinger. Anyway, one of my fav vids.

Great song (I'm sure you get the connection). I love its stripped down simplicity.

And yes I really enjoy Blunstone and The Zombies, but I also like Goldfrapp.

^^ A classic for sure.

Stroll

I can't understand why I never knew of this song until a few years ago. Only knew of the Temptations TOTP stuff till I started exploring & was amazed they put stuff like this out! Went straight into my fav tracks of all time memory bank :)

This is a link as much inspired by that delightful Temptations track as by the word stroll.

The late J.J. Cale (he died last year) - a guitarists' guitarist if ever there was one. The man did laid back like no one else.

Gallagher

Maria was another great laid back. This is more in your face. Rory - no relation to the brothers. But a cracking guitarist. And a decent concert to enjoy)

Never really listened to RG, have a few albums that I got along the way, like the frist 10 mins of that ^^ will give more attention at some point. As he's of Cork origin I'll use this, from a superb album. The title of this track from the album was something I never knew of until a visit to Cork and warned of the danger of saying the wrong thing in the wrong place! Long story, anyway, love the album - The Great Summit.

Now that's also wonderfully laid back Whisty. But again I'm going to spoil your tranquility. One of the best festival anthem bands of all time - The Saw Doctors. If you can have Black and Tan I'll have Green and Red.

P.S. Many years ago I was 'advised' by the IRA to get out of Ireland immediately if I wanted to keep my kneecaps intact when I was working as a journalist on an investigation into a betting scam they were running. I was out of Cork like a shot. But I'd already got the story. It cost the IRA £3 million in money they stood to gain but were unable to collect when the story ran.

P. P.S. Glad to have your link I was getting word association withdrawal symptoms.

:) It takes time to give a considered response and usually search through my collection of music to find something appropriate which of course gets me easily distracted! Maybe some others if they read this thread should join in (please).

Anyway I looked for a combination of colours and ended up with Blues. At 14.32 in the vid is Karcag Blues performed by Zagar, a Hungarian Band that I quite like, they crossover and mix genres very well. Anyway the track Karcag Blues has a nice Hendrixy riff :)

Never encountered Zagar before. They'd fit well at Glasto.

From Blues I have to go for Crossroads. A great film based on the story of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil in exchange for the gift of guitar playing. The part of the devil was played by Steve Vai and I think the actual second guitar on the soundtrack was Ry Cooder.

A film well worth hunting out.
