As you forgot the word, mine is now Broken

Medeski Martin and Wood, they're pure quality in my totally subjective opinion. At least now I might be able to play a musical instrument seeing as it can be done with a screwdriver. If you watch, keep going till 5:14 at least :)

I saw this song performed only three days ago by an excellent Small Faces tribute band, The Small Fakers, who I thoroughly recommend.

They did three sets, the early Small Faces, Humble Pie and then The Faces with Rod Stewart.

The song has always been a favourite of mine. The Australian band Python Lee Jackson arrived in Britain in 1970 with the song already written but they needed a good voice for it and ended up calling in a little known session singer Rod Stewart. He was reputedly paid for his efforts with a new set of seat covers for his car. When it was originally released it did nothing. But two years later when Rod Stewart hit the big time it was re-released and went to number 3.

Rod re-recorded it in 1992 with Dave Gilmour and John Paul Jones but never released it.

Anyway, here's Rod with "In a Broken Dream"

Dammit I can't get the hum of In a Broken Dream out of my head. Quick someone give me another hum.

(Still it's better than when I posted Bill Bailey playing the 1812 Overture on the bicycle horns. That stuck with me for about a week.

If it's Over it has to be Time.

I was going to go for Booker T's Time is Tight but after the demolition of the English Cricketers by Holland I thought Soul Limbo might be more fitting.

Another favourite from times more psychedelis is Time has Come Today by the Chambers Brothers.

"I was 21 years when I wrote this song" - Paul Simon's 'Leaves that are green'

A song about an age so let's branch out with Leaves.

This is Paul Simon with Art Garfunkel. Paul may have got sniffy about him but Art's harmonies raise Simon's lyrics so much in performance.

The same opening line for Billy Bragg's New England

My first thought was Crazy Horse, so I'll take it from Crazy to (Neil) Young.

We've got the cleaned up version of F**k You on the Wii Just Dance disc, and the girls trounce me with it. Proper Step-Dad dancing.

Child

Saw these at the Royal Albert Hall one year, got chatting to a bloke who'd travelled from NZ just to catch the concert, not a rich man, just a fan.

And if anybody's bored, an odd video I caught yesterday that has no word association :)

I've loved this song since it was first released but it has an added poignancy for me as it was chosen by one of my old friends to be played at his funeral. He knew he was dying of cancer but had time to plan his departure including his choice of music to be played.

So if you have children you have to Teach them and, as the song says, feed them on your dreams.

As always thanks Whisty for broadening my musical horizons. The Cinematic Orchestra is excellent. Never encountered them before.

In the same spirit, no word link but this is Mostly Autumn, again a not widely known band that attracts devoted fans who'll travel a long way to see them. I find them hard to describe. My best effort is folk meets prog rock - sort of Fairport Convention meets Pink Floyd.

Liked that Mostly Autumn track, good stuff and the Daryl's house links up there, although for me that F#ck track, can't get my head round the need for it, prefer the non swearing one. Anyway, I'm sure I could be taught a Trick or 2, and for some reason just the name of this singer makes me want to listen!

Trick of the Tail is banned as a follow up :)

Quite a background young Charlotte.......

Talking of F#ck I remember Country Joe leading the audience in "Give Me an F" at Shepton Mallet (Glasto -1). This is his Woodstock version.

Anyway, another Country Joe Track. Sorry no actual performance video but for any too young to remember Richard Nixon was known as 'Tricky Dicky'

So you can go with either Dick or Dicky

Loved the Daryl's house videos. Never come across them before. Whisty i agree with your views on it not being needed normally, but on this occasion it is very much needed. You must at some point in your life, hated somebody that much that the only reply is f**k you! Why mince words.

First word that sprang to mind was BIRD, as in Dickie bird.

Wings - Bluebird

Quite similar song title but very different song and performance. One of the most under-rated R&B bands of the sixties, The Pretty Things with Don't Bring Me Down. (starts at about 3'00"). Going as long as The Stones and in their original line up as pioneering but never made Mr Jagger's money.

So the link word is Pretty

A bit of reflection on how it all started and, with hindsight, some missed opportunities.

Thanks Whisty for an opportunity to link in a convoluted way to a hugely influential figure - Lonnie Donnegan. His early skiffle stuff was cited as a major influence by people as varied as Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler and Ray Davies.

The connection with wasted is Lonnie's hit "My old man's a dustman" but here's a chance to see Lonnie and Van and Friends on Jools Holland's show.

And the link word is Midnight

Funny, skiffle was a bit of a joke when I was young, then you find out!

Daybreak,

Live track over a vid. Kind of hoping the rumour is true that he's playing the festival.

Well this is someone who probably wont be appearing at Glasto again. He's got another engagement at Southwark Crown Court on April 30th.

In fairness, apart from innocent until proven guilty, he was a fun slot

Woman

Nothing live so just a track. Was on the B Side of the 45 rpm Feel like Making Love which I got my friend to buy as too embarrassed to ask for it! Think I preferred this track after I played it. Oh the memories!

"It was revealed in April 2011 that after Jim Morrison's death, the rest of The Doors wanted Paul Rodgers to replace him. Rodgers has said that he was unreachably rural at the time, and the moment passed"

Love the Unreachably Rural bit.
