PERU

Sorry to revert back to my stunted emotional growth, but marmalade made me think of Paddington Bear, from deepest, darkest Peru.

PADDINGTON BEAR THEME TUNE:

I always associate Peru with Pan Pipes. We used to get street buskers in their full Peruvian gear playing the pipes.

So here's an example of it being done beautifully.

So the link is either Pan or Pipes - take your pick

To lower the tone a bit. Pyramid > Egypt > Cleopatra

Glenda Jackson when she was at the top as an actress prepared to have a bit of fun with Eric and Ern.

A chance to link to one of my favourite songs. Funnily enough I was only thinking of it this afternoon because I've been asked to teach two creative writing courses starting next Monday and I usually play some music as a song is often a poem set to music and I'd earmarked this song for one of the sessions.

Can't find a video of the songwriter Bert Jansch performing it but this is Neil Young paying a great tribute to Bert. And I suppose I can claim Neil Young as a Glasto connection as his set has to be one of the great Glasto standouts.

The song is Needle of Death. A powerful song about a young man who died from a heroin overdose.

I did manage to find a recording by Bert illustrated by slides.

So the link word is Death

Not clear if City or Official is what I'm supposed to link to. In my memory Bright Lights, Big City is associated with The Animals - still going strong with original drummer John Steel who's been with them for more than 50 years - even though we've lost Chas Chandler - their bassman who managed both Hendrix and Slade.

This is at the Colne Blues Festival, an event I've promised myself I'd visit for years.

So I'll go with a link word of Animals

Not at Glasto this year but he put in a very creditable performance and still does a great live show. One of the best cheesy singalongs in the business.

Man were a great South Wales rock band in the seventies. One of their first albums was Man Live at The Paget Rooms, where my daughter had her wedding bash.

However a link to Paget is probably asking too much so this is man Live at The Rex.

The Glasto connection is that they played the fest in 1994. They also for a while had Terry Williams as drummer before he joined Dire Straits.

From Sea to C C Rider

This is Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels and it proves that had You Tube existed in 1966 some bands would not have taken off. I used to think this was real power rock. But then I never saw the band. Now I look at it and think what????

If you ignore the film and just listen to the music and it might be OK.

And I'm bloated after Dad's Day. We'd planned a pub meal at 6.30 with my daughters. But yesterday we were invited to a celebratory restaurant lunch by my brother in law after it was announced he'd been awarded the MBE. Well you can't say no to something like that. So I had a blow out three course lunch and then drove from that to a meal with my daughters.

I won't want to eat for a week now.
