There's definitely something fishy in Scotland. Not only Mr Fish but we've just had Salmond replaced by Sturgeon (sorry that's probably in the wrong thread).

I wasn't really waving the big stick about live vids but I suppose I partly go to fests to see people perform live and it's interesting to see clips of people I might want to keep an eye out for. Anyway apologies for Mr Hack's Grump.

So from Fish to Sea

This is Mitch Ryder in his latter days. I think he'd struggle to even do an oldies slot at Glasto now.

But when he was younger he produced some great high energy rock.

This is C C Rider and Jenny Takes a Ride from 1965

One of the best known sea shanties from Hobo Jones and The Junkyard Dogs. Always worth looking out. So the link is Drunk.

Sadly I know too many people whose lives have been wrecked by alcohol so I'll link with the name of the band rather than the song.

This is George Thorogood and the Destroyers

Mysterons to Question

This is ? and The Mysterians and 96 Tears.

They were a one hit wonder - possibly because with a name like ? and The Mysterians, you don't know quite where to file the band in a normal alphabetical list and so don't know where to find them either.

You can Mark Time

This is Chris Farlowe - still doing the business at 74+

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxiMxgDQAHE

I saw him a couple of years ago and afterwards he was chatting to people. Mrs Grumpyhack said to him: "I first saw you at the Colston Hall in Bristol in 1968."

He paused, looked at her and replied: "I thought I recognised the face!"

Clocks have Faces

A band that pioneered a lot without the recognition they deserved at the time. Links to The Who, The Stones and here with the lovely PP Arnold on vocals.

Check out their Ogden's Nut Gone Flake Album.

Argghhh, beaten. I'll come back with something.

What a great line to Mrs Grumpy he came out with :0

Sometimes I hate my musical snobbery missing things like this. Well some snobbery and a dislike of mahoosive crowds.

From time to CLOCKS; enjoyed these :)

In celebration of the post above. Pretty.

Pretty has so many link possibilities: Things, Flamingo but I'll settle for Woman.

If you can surround yourself with backing musicians like this you must have done something right in your career.

I was going to link from Cry to the Pretty Things "Cry To Me" but in looking for the video I came across this great account of the early days of British R&B, narrated by John Peel. It seemed more interesting than a poor performance by the ageing Pretty Things, so I thought you might enjoy a bit of history instead.

Worth hunting out the rest of the Rock Family Tree series or the books by Pete Frame.

So no link for now but a bit of diversion.

The Animals with Chas Chandler on bass.

Chas went on to music management and launched the careers in the UK of Hendrix and Slade.

After all that passion a bit of Californian light and harmony - although there is a line about stopping into a church to make the connection.

And the link word is Dream

Dream immediately brings this tune to mind which Radio Caroline used to play on a regular basis, loved it then, think it's embarrassingly slushy now! And followed by another tune that still sounds great to this day. Funny it was around the same time I was listening to these tunes! Don't often listen to lyrics but the Family one really grabbed me.

So a twofer, Weaver

And so nice to come across this after thinking R C was one of Grumpys gonners :) If I'd known I would have gone there for sure.

Some of these definitely are among Grumpys Gonners.

This is The Weavers, a group of left-leaning folkies formed in the forties and who included Pete Seeger. This song was a hit for them in 1950. It has a particular poignancy for me as the song was adopted as an unlikely theme song by supporters of Bristol Rovers Football Club.

My late father in law was a lifelong Rovers supporter and actually died following a massive stroke whilst watching them in a cup match.

For my mother in law's 90th birthday we arranged for a small male voice choir to perform, led by fellow Efester Drewstrat, and one of the songs they did by request was Goodnight Irene. A grand singalong with quite a few Rovers fans there brought the house down.

So the link word is Irene

and as a bonus his superb version of House of The Rising Sun, with full audience participation

John is a firm festival favourite but if you've never seen him it's worth a trek
