Ours, Yours so EVERYBODY

I blame this on my learners. On some of the courses I teach, towards the end I put together a class CD with each person's favourite track and a group photo and everybody gets a copy as a memento.

One of the class has just chosen this as his favourite track. His choice, not mine, but it fits the thread.

From Bend to SHAPE

A fascinating example of trans-Atlantic modifications.

This is the original version by the American Breed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CVJFQkPkCg[

And how it was adapted and given a harder edge and a brass arrangement by Amen Corner.

Amen Corner's lead singer Andy Fairweather-Low progressed to become Eric Clapton's Musical Director and a fine guitarist and bluesman in this own right.

Here he's having a bit of fun opening for Clapton with the magnificent Dave Bronze on bass.

We're on a roll Oneeye!

Another very under-rated band (IMHO) Slade. They were superb live and lyrics and tunes to match some of The Beatles' best.

So from Closest, take any of these: FAR, FAR AWAY

Managed by Chas Chandler, the one-time Animals bass player, who also managed Hendrix, they were really, underneath it all, a tidy blues band.

A bit of a one hit wonder in the UK.

Nena with 99 Red Balloons

Still touring in Europe - now with her twin kids as backing singers.

If you have a party you get round a few MATES

I've almost certainly posted this before. This is Southside Johnny, who grew up with Springsteen in New Jersey. They ran rival bands but remained good mates and occasionally the two bands got together for a party.

Just to add my favourite Southside track. His take on Walk Away Renee, originally by the Left Banke but a hit for the Four Tops. I just love the sax solo.

Massachusetts has a Cambridge and so do we. This band played at the Cambridge Rock festival and I was lucky to catch them today at my local blues club. Great stuff, lots of people were blown away by the bass player Laurie Dalziel and the Guitarist Dave Edwards is pretty much a match for anybody I've seen. So to give them a shout here :)

Didn't know you were a Cambridge Rock Festival goer Whisty. I was involved with that for quite a few years - stewarded, designed and wrote the programme one year, helped run the box office etc.

If Oneeye has us back to England, here's an odd American perspective from Roger Miller. "Bobbies on bicycles, two by two....."

So England SWINGS
