SIDEWAYS

The Yardbirds still going, albeit only really with original drummer Chris Dreja.

But at their peak a great band and without whom we wouldn't have had Led Zepp or lots of other things.

No live video of this bit but Jimmy Page on top form

TRUE Love Ways

Originally a Buddy Holly hit. This is Peter and Gordon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-g5F94Kix4U

Peter Asher, brother of Jane who dated Macca, went on to be head of A&R at Apple Records and later went on to produce and manage Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor.

Sadly, Gordon is now one of Grumpy's Gonnners.

(Excuse me playing by myself but I love this game).

Nice band Oneeye. New one on me to thanks.

Another oldie from me - Elkie Brooks, a great British singer who used to belt them out with Vinegar Joe before a solo career.

So it's LILAC Wine

In case you don't know her, this is Elkie in action two years ago at the age of 67. She's still touring and has a pretty packed schedule. I hope I wear that well.

If I've got a choice of colours I'll go for PINK

It's not often you get a fresh take on an old blues classic but I really enjoyed this pop hit version of House of The Rising Sun.

Possibly only bettered by the magnificent John Otway

Folky band who've been around a while. The Men They Couldn't HANG

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsDhOLncY6M

Plus a Grumpy Gonner - Lonnie Donnegan, who pioneered skiffle, introduced many people to blues music, played with all sorts of people from Van Morrison to The Stones and was cited as a major influence by people like Mark Knopfler.

Hang on SLOOPY

Sorry gang but middle of the night boredom.

This lot were still in school when they were signed up and had a Number 1 with this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoZ5JL3gmHo

One of them moved on and made a name - Rick Derringer. Here with Ringo Starr. (Sorry about the first two minutes of waffle)

Let's go for a CHOO CHOO Train

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12Aqdjtvp7o

This is Albert Hammond, who actually also wrote some very good songs including The Air That I Breathe (a Hollies hit), It Never Rains in Southern California, and Free Electric Band. Also collaborated more recently with Duffy and is still touring.

Hi Pop pickers. So I stumbled on this vid this morning after trying to find out who Rahsaan Roland Kirk is/was. So there's a track called Monday morning Choo Choo which has nothing to do with this other than Monday links to the vid :)

Stormy,

What a cracking line up and the Supershow thing I never knew about before, so on another journey today. Roland if you're not aware, could play 3 bits of brass at the same time. An exponent of circular breathing, I did see mention that he played for over 2 hours with no discernable break for intake of breath, check him out :)

It's RAINING Men

The Weather Girls

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmGFAJsphd0

This duo were also known as Two Tons of Fun

Stormy Monday is a great song, lots of versions going back to Billie Holliday and Etta James. This is Chris Farlowe and an opportunity to tell a story that I've probably related before. Mrs GH and I went to see Chris in Cardiff a couple of year ago and afterwards he was hanging around chatting to the audience. Mrs GH went up to him and said: "The last time I saw you was at the Colston Hall in Bristol in 1966." He paused, fixed her in the eye and said: "Ah yes, I thought I recognised the face."

The EAGLE flies on Friday... so I'll creep back in with these lads. Prefer Hotel Bastardos though ("play the Eagles, everyone likes the Eagles"), good old Rik and Ade in Comic Book Presents...

Make it easy for us why don't you Whisty?

A pious person is devoted or DEDICATED so here's the Mamas and Papas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j43hm1j7liU

Sadly three of the four are now Grumpy's Gonners but they produced beautiful harmonies and will for ever be associated in my mind with glorious sunny days.

Their spirit lives on with Wilson Phillips, a band formed by the offspring of John and Michelle Phillips of the M&P and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. (Sadly not quite up to their mamas and papas).

Saved me looking up what Pious meant :) Sugar coated candy up there Mr Hack.

Closest I can get to dedicated is Addicted, did like this song, nice to hear/see it performed without electronic wizadry.

And the recorded version that ramps up the Bass which I guess most of us music lovers couldn't do without that sound.

COCAINE

JJ Cale with what looks like a very young Jools Holland. A lot of his original work was also recorded by others including Clapton.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E40IFKrzDIg

JJ (Another of Grumpy's Gonners) was a great pioneer of beautifully delicate laid back guitar as with this version of Crazy Mama.
