gittinsell
Ok so I'm pretty interested in volunteering for next year's festival. I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford the ticket and from stories I've heard volunteering sounds like a good way of helping out and getting in for free! I want to know where I can find more information on this though, and apply? I've googled 'volunteering at reading festival' and found very little, there also is nothing I can find on the website. Anybody who can help me out with this? Any websites that explain it all or anything? Thank you
Rufus Gwertigan
I cant do links on my phone. Try googling Oxfam Stewards or Hotbox Events who do the campsites. Usually the deal is pay a deposit of around 220 quid and you work around 24 hours in 3 shifts and they refund your cash end of September/October. rug568
What rufus said. Some friends did Oxfam last year and they said it's really good. They worked shifts on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning so they had 3 full days of music. The people who sign up earliest get to pick their shifts so it's defiantly worth doing as soon as registration opens.

gemstarrr
I have worked for Hotbox events at Leeds Festival before and would really recommend it! While we're at it, if you have ever volunteered at any kind of cultural festival or event, be it music, performance, sporting or carnival, please take a few minutes to fill out my questionnaire for my dissertation. It will be much appreciated!http://tolu.na/WEkYDX Thanks
glasto-worker
the links can be found http://www.hotboxevents.com/ http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get-involved/festivals although after the season ends they may change their page I have not worked with either but I have been a Volunteer at Reading for more than 20 years providing a person accepts that there will be some times where they may miss a band or so its a good way to do it . I am not keen on Reading and its the only event I would never go to as a ticketholder but working it is fine.
Dan R
Just curious, how do the shifts work at the festivals? Is it first come first serve to pick shifts or are they randomly allocated?
lharris92
you put in for whatever shifts you want, they tell you whether you get them. i suppose the earlier you get them in the better as its most likely first come first served

Dan R
I was looking at applying to steward with oxfam or just as a CAT with hotbox I think. By the way you've said it WBC is only for applying to for the full season, and leeds is the only one ill be able to apply for. Im happy to accept im probably not going to be able to see most of the acts I want to, ill still see more than I would sat at home and should be a decent experience. glasto-worker
I found out a week ago that my WBC Team was given a full allocation which saves me from cutting anyone. I normally don't find out to the middle of July so its early this year. Shifts are between 4 and 8 hours per day { four days } - will not find out the shifts until onsite. adz101
OXFAM STEWARDING you cant choose your shifts but you usually get one morning, day and evening shift with 24 hours in between. There is an option to swap shifts but you have to find a fellow steward to swap with. More info in the FAQ'S http://www.oxfam.org.uk/stewarding/faqs
