Why? just because a band have been headline material in the past does not automatically make them headliners forever.

True, but that doesn't apply to PJ (yet). I think the point is that they are still a headline band and because of that it would be disrespectful thinking he could get them to sub.

But what if playing an earlier sub slot fitted in with travel plans to go to another festival the next day for example? I'm sure a 90 min sub slot isn't impossible. I'm sure that getting a 4th headliner sized band is an unnecessary expense in a normal year but what if you could afford it and it was key to putting your competitor out of business? Just thinking aloud.

I remember Tool headline a festival in europe and after they finished "special guests" Guns N Roses played after them...

The price it'd cost would put download out of business! They'll sell tickets regardless and possibly sell out as it is without throwing millions more at a headline act to play lower. It just wouldnt make sense finacially

And to be fair. Opening 2nd stage is about right for Green Day I'd say.
