week from Saturday...Jagger's intro to Dead Flowers...

"We couldn't get Brad Paisley tonight for The Nal, whom we know loves BOTH kinds of music...country AND western... so just for him....fresh from his afternoon set in the Acoustic Tent....a big welcome, please...for.... Zac Brown!!!"

 At least I'm finally getting some Pyramid Stage acknowledgement. About time.

That performance of Sympathy is pretty damn awesome, can't wait for 100,000+ people to sing 'woo woo, woo woo' in unison.

Pleased with the setlist too actually, I'm assuming they'll recognise that rarities etc. whilst great when played at the right time, are probably a bad move next Saturday.

I find it odd that everyone assumes the set list will be nearly the same as previous gigs when this is the first outdoor gig of the tour, the first to have warm up acts, the first with a crowd over 25,000, the first to be aimed at non/casual stones fans, the first to not use their custom built staging, the first where they're not in control of every aspect.

The 40 licks tour saw them play a stadium, an Arena and a theatre in the world's major cities. They changed the set list massively based on the size of the venue and other factors. While all stadium gigs had a slightly similar set list (from memory, don't shoot me) these were radically different from all the arena set list.

I find it hard to believe they will start with get off my cloud.

Special guests such as Gary Clarke Jr would be a waste of time.

Guests like Bobby Womack and Jack White (or in a dream world Bowie, Tina Turner and McCartney) would be fantastic. Names that mean something to the average Glasto goer.

There are a lot of songs that have been rehearsed that still need an airing. With London being the only city to have been visited twice on this tour (with a large gap in between) I don't believe they will just churn out the same set.

These are 3 very special performances to round off the 2nd leg of the tour. These guys are professionals, the like of which Glastonbury nor the world has seen before. I'll be so disappointed (and shocked) if they just do the standard 50 and counting set list. Opening night was a bit different, just watch, we're in for a treat.

Ruby Tuesday!

Lets Spend The Night Together

Heard it through the grapevine (heavily rehearsed)

These and other well known classics still need an airing and time is running out.

The list someone posted on here the other day said let's spend the night together hadn't been rehearsed.... I so hope that's wrong. Do you know differently?

There's too much riding on these gigs for them to want to shake things up too significantly from the shows they've played over the last couple of months. They'll not want to leave the welcome mat out for Mr Cock Up by doing too much untested material - especially the elements of the set that'll be broadcast by the BBC, most of which are being agreed in advance, if you believe the article in the Indie - which definitely indicated that Gimme Shelter was going to be the 4th number.

why would they change the setlist they're currently doing? it's near enough perfect - all the big songs with a few lesser played gems slotted in. it's exactly what everybody in the Glastonbury crowd will want and exactly what set they should be playing. maybe they'll change one or two - who knows - but i think it'll be pretty much identical to their current setlists

I'm with Alabama on this. I can see & do think they will change the set list for this side of the Atlantic. And not just the middle section.

They know they're playing to a different crowd and will taylor it to suit.

What ever happens it will be awesome. I was worried when the first gigs were announced last year that they couldn't still pull it off. Last night's (and other clips) Sympathy shows they can still pull off an amazing show.

As for the 90 minute delay, yes a ball ache but i still believe it's to set up something/s special for the stage.

Can. Not. Wait! :girlwah:

I'll go for the middle ground where I think we may get, at most, 3 surprise tunes.

Wild Horses from last night. Really don't know how some people don't like this. A real Glimmer Twims gem. Keith originally wrote it about his son Marlon, about leaving him to go on the road and then Mick chipped in with some Marianne stuff (I think?). I know he said its not about her but I don't believe him!

Anyway, the bullshitometer is been turned right down as we approach next Saturday night. No messing about, no in vogue special guest with Mick flirting with her. Just Jagger singing it. Beautifully. And meaning it.

"Next Saturday night." Got a little shiver typing that. :)

We're seeing the greatest rock and roll band of all time play next week at the greatest festival off all time. And they sound as good as they have in recent memory.

I love Wild Horses. There I've said it.

I may have to leave the area after the Scteam simply because I worry that 90 minutes of staring at the PowerPoint slide on the screens saying 'on next-The Rolling Stones' while my brain repeatedly says 'I'm about to watch the Stones at Glastonbury!!!' will cause me to lose my shit in a significant way

That pretty much sums it up!

I'll second that, in 25 years time this is going to be one of those 'I was there' moments. I had my reservations before the US tour but from the videos ive seen id say the band is playing as good as they have done since the late 80s early 90s.

Keith is sounding like he is on top form and Micks singing is as good as I can remember. Theres also the added bonus of Mick Taylor too

Just sit back and enjoy it Saturday night, as Nal said this is the greatest rock and roll band of all time, moments like this dont come round very often

Can you tell im just a tad excited?

i concur with the others....Nal - you've said that perfectly. that's the line of the year on here so far (though your toilet rant against that fella who encouraged avoiding having to use the long drops for 3 or 4 days was classic too)

i am extremely excited. only my second ever Stones show and in most likelihood my last one, and at my favorite place to see a landmark gig. honestly, the most stressful thing for me now is what I decide to do about those 90 minutes. I aimed to be in the 'pit' by Costello and for Primal Scream (being in the US, we don't get Primal Scream visits, so it's a must-see for me since i've never seen them, and I've got Rodriguez at Radio City Music Hall in the Fall), but do I waste 90 minutes of valuable time at the greatest weekend standing still or do i venture up to see 20-30 mins of Steve Winwood and lose my spot for such a historic gig? Where could I possibly end up if I walked down from the acoustic at about 830pm? pit surely out? how would I feel if I left my spot to find that it's 5 or 10 people deep outside the acoustic tent at 8/810pm? and more importantly, all of these decisions have huge implications on my drinking schedule that Saturday too given my 43 year old bladder.

I'll have a good mull over it all while I'm at Wilco's Solid Sound this Saturday...

I think the crowd may surprise them too, and hopefully will contribute to making it a great gig! Without offending anyone who has been on this tour, the crowds seem a little stale. Even Satisfaction, JJF, Wild Horses etc. aren't getting much crowd interaction!

Compared top the crowds they get in places like Buenos Aires, the Glastonbury audiences is shy and mild-mannered.

That said, yes, it'll still be a vast improvement on the US arenas and the omens are still looking good!

funny how 'sing-a-longs' seem so important

not necessarily important (although obviously if the crowd is singing along, they know the songs which always helps) but the chorus to Wild Horses ringing out across the Pyramid field in particular would be pretty special (to me at least)

hopefully that should put some of emotion back into the song that seems a bit lacking there, im sure it will be v different on the night....they prob wont even play it now ;)
