Rolling Stones...

I did hear a few grumbles that the jams were over-indulgent, but the guitar-w*nk is what I and many other people come for, Midnight Rambler was a great experience for me. In a set bursting at the seams with classic singalong hits, it was a tiny fraction of the set.

Yeah, not knocking it for others, just my perspective on it.

And yeah, what Wooderson said, relief. That's a really astute comment.

It wasnt long enough!

Same for Cant You Hear Me Knocking. That was 7 minutes of heaven. The lighting was incredible.

I take back what I said about Keith being a bit of a passenger. Just looking at it here. Some of his guitar playing was really great.

I may well be talking out of my arse here but maybe someone can help me
clear this up.............
Looking at the Pyramid we have a screen behind the act and one to the left
and one on the right. When we arrived for the Stones I was pretty sure I
spotted two extra screens that hadn`t been there on the Friday night. They
were at the left and right directly above the ones that are always there. I
remember thinking that they would help with the size of the crowd as we
were pretty far back. When I wandered past on Sunday they were not there
again ? But at no point did I see them working.
So, were they screens that didn`t work ? Were they extra speakers and not
in fact screens or do I need to stop drinking cider ?
And another thing. I was talking to a guy just before they came on who was
telling me about a video that had been made with celebs / normal people
talking about their love and experiences of the Stones and he was expecting
it to be played as part of the build up to their entrance, a bit like the
Jay z one. We now know that they had problems with the speakers at the
left side so were there maybe more gremlins that we don`t know about. Not
that it matters now. I loved every second of it but I`m still confused by
this thing with the screens. Any ideas ?

Had the absolute time of my life. Get chills just thinking about it.

I stuck around from Elvis Costello onwards and got a brilliant spot. Was stuck in the big crush after Primal Scream but it wasn't all that bad. Just got chatting to people around me for me 90 minutes (Was it really that long? Felt like 30 minutes) Must have been the alcohol that made the wait seem quick.

By time the Stones came on I must have been about 10-15 rows back and was jumping up and down for the whole 2 hours. Not only the best set I have seen at Glasto but probably the best I have ever attended.

Intrigued to see a few people mention Doom & Gloom as a highlight. I must admit that I thought it worked really well too. One of the few times at a Stones show when new material hasn't gone down like a bit of a lead balloon. Another highlight in a show bursting at the seams with highlights.

(Remember really enjoying Keith doing The Worst at Wembley many years ago)

Only just read through everyone's reviews but I have to concur with the majority: they fucking nailed it.

My expectations were stupidly high and they surpassed them! I thought Jagger was incredible, the setlist was near perfect and the atmosphere was unbeatable. Thoroughly enjoyed every second. We had a great spot to the left of the sound desk. The only downside for me was being desperate for a piss throughout with no chance of getting out let alone getting back! There was no crowd movement at all. But despite being on the verge of kidney failure I loved every second.

After Chic on Friday I doubted the Stones could top it. Then after seeing them I was sure they'd be band of the weekend. That was until around 8pm on Sunday when Mr Cave rocked up ;)

I'm seeing the Stones again on Saturday with my other half so really interested to see how it will compare. I'm hoping we'll get a few songs that were absent.

Street Fighting Man's got a better than average chance, I'd say, if only because it mentions Landahn tahn.

Maybe some sort of Brian Jones tribute too given the official Facebook page posted a dedication to him last night. The 1969 connection might see them dig out something like Love In Vain or No Expectations.

I think there's a song poll for Saturday as well, but not sure what songs are on it.

That's probably got something to do with Doom and Gloom being the best new song they've put out in decades.

For whatever reason the stones brought their own screens. The screens that where off where the ones that are normally there but after Primal Scream a second set where hoisted up and used by the stones. Edited by mcshed

Midnight Rambler lasted for about 10 minutes. The album version is 7 minutes. The live versions from any of their live albums are closer to 10. It was faithful to how they've always played it. Mick and Ronnie jamming it out at the end was so good. It got faster. I was dancing like I'd just swallowed a pint of plutonium.

Again, a personal opinion. I thought that was one of the best, most significant headliners I have ever seen (and probably will ever see) at the Pyramid Stage. The sheer scale of the crowd, the build up and buzz during the day, and the fact that being on a Saturday rather than the closing night meant that all of the crowd were still physically up for the show, ensured that the Rolling Stones were one of the best performances at Glastonbury.

Jagger was immense and held nothing back when strutting his stuff. The rest of the band looked so happy (and effortlessly cool) when doing their thing.

Me and my whole group were able to get a perfect spot; front central of the sound stage (about 5 rows back from the secondary barrier) and the atmosphere was immense. We had been there about 20 minutes before Primal Scream. I didn't notice any problems with the sound in this area. There was a sad, yet special feeling towards the end of the set that made you think that most of us would be very very lucky to get to see these guys play again.

Absolute legends. Eavis must have grinning from ear to ear after all of the hard work he put in trying to secure them over the years.

Long live the Rolling Stones.

Strange, I was also wondering about the extra screens. I thought it had been like the u2 incident again. As I got there late (well 15 minutes before the Stones came on), it seemed like they had the extra screens purely for the safety message afterwards.
