Rolling Stones...

No more than Jagger, Watts is a serious fucking athlete.

I think one tune summed it up for me

Gimme Shelter.

Great tune and a good performance from what I saw, but Jagger was a bit limp from what I could hear and was been shown up by the female vocals throughout............But I suppose one does have to appreciate that her vocals are a massive, core part of that tune.......

But Jaggers lack of punch was evident to my ears...

The thing about Jagger is hes a 69 year old man running around the stage for 2 hours. Of course the vocal performance is going to suffer. People a fraction of his age Beyonce and even Madonna and Jackson - all that top tier pop lot - know this so they use backing tracks and mime where needed. Jagger doesn't.

I saw Guns n Roses play a few years ago and Axl sounded like shit running around. It wasn't until he threw a tantrum and came back on stage to finish the gig and make sure that he got paid that he started sounding good, like the records. Because he just stood still.

So its the show vs the vocal performance? Or a split where possible. Ill take the split. I was singing so much I couldn't hear him anyway!

Wasn't there either in 2001 or 2009, but I've seen Bowie, Blur and Neil many a time - and, yet, I can't really compare. Saw Blur a few days after Glastonbury in 2009 and it was a good show alright, maybe even a great one, but it was still several rungs down the ladder from anything I'd consider a transformative or soul-enriching experience.

But, as always and just as with Saturday, you had to be there.

FWIW I'm not even that big a fan of Rockin' In The Free World as a tune. Or Tender for that matter. Even a middling performance of Gimme Shelter is, for me, gonna trump either one.

I think most people who were at Blur in '09 would evangelise about how emotional the whole thing was.

As the boy Roy would say "all credit to ya Mick".

I personally think its phenomenal that those lads can still give as good as they gave that Saturday in Pilton.

Just for me it did not grab me by the balls in the way I thought it had the potential to do.

I really thought that I may come away from that Glasto gig viewing the Stones in a different light, but I didnt. I still view them the exact same way. A good band, with some great tunage but nothing that is going to make me fanatical.....

I came away from it thinking "They nailed it. And that setlist is as good as youre likely to see."

I dont care how it sounded on telly.

Those watching on tv saw 7/8 songs of 20 odd - less than half of the show. The first 4 songs really set the tone for me. I thought it was a special night, who cares if there was the odd cock up the bands only human.

Enjoy it for what it was, we'll never see them at Glastonbury again

I'm the same with most of Blurs music. If Tender was the YCAGWYW its not apples/apples to me.

Only reason I'm bringing up these other shows is cuz the Stones was at that level. 6 months ago I thought it might plumb the Rod Stewart standards however. Thats pretty remarkable.

Its great isn't it? I even remember in early May speaking to you about going to Public Enemy instead!

MD - First four tunes - Jumpin' Jack Flash, Its Only Rock and Roll, Gimme Shelter.

Thats Mick doing this to the Pyramid field....

TTD is right, it was as good as anybody could have hoped for, includng the band themselves. I don't think anybody 6 months ago would have expected it to be that good. If you go and see The Stones, that's the best you're going to get these days, and I doubt you'll ever see any cocert as good as that again from them. Any shortfall or disappointment from anybody who was there is down solely to the lack of a time machine and the fact this isn't 1972.

Just listening to some Beatles, I think we really do have to include Macca in with Blur, Shakey and Bowie. So many "moments" in that gig. Penny Lane, Yesterday, Hey Jude, Let it Be - all arms round the smelly stranger next to you moments.

He is absolutely there up yeah.

"Here Today" was one of the more emotional songs I've ever seen performed on that stage.

The setlist is a pisstake. All Things Must Pass. In Spite of All the Danger. Wow.

He's a scouser though, which automatically means he robs tents and should be banned (If buy into the viewpoint of some people on here)

I was just looking at it. Its a setlist that hands down wins any setlist willy waving contest.

And I just noticed .... He played Yellow Submarine?!! That moment is completely wiped from my memory. I do like my brain sometimes. Has a great filter functionality
