Morse Code
I think earlier in the thread I said Keef was a bit of a passenger. I 100% retract that. He was fucking incredible. All night. Love the way they're so loose. But thats the Stones I suppose. During "Knocking" Taylor sort of told Jagger to ask Bobby Keys to stop the sax solo so he could start his guitar part! Hes kind of doing a "tell him to knock it on the head" action. Ronnie picked up on it and walked over and leaned on Keys shoulder and sort of said "here let Taylor have a go". Sober Ronnie by the way. A worthy fucking adversary dude. He was amazing. His "We're not worthy" waving at Watts when Jagger introduced him is lovely. He did it behind his back and Charlie sort of turned round and saw it and gave him a "Ah fuck off will you" sort of look. Ronnie and Jagger laughing their arses off at Charlies embarrassment. Theres also a great bit when Richards kisses Lisa Fischers shoulder when shes dancing between him and Ronnie. For a gig to move Keef as much as it did shows it was very special. His giving praise to the gig posturing after Satisfaction is one of the greatest things I've seen at a gig. The crowd singing the riff back at them. It looked like he couldn't believe how well the gig went. So refreshing to see a band of their stature playing a lot of the gig - one of the biggest gigs of all time - on the fly. A proper organic, live rock and roll band. Lots of nods and winks, prompts between band members to start/stop etc. Genuinely life affirming stuff. What a great post Nal, it's got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up again! I watched it in full last night an couldn't help but feel the only thing that affected this performance was a bit of old age. It certainly wasn't their desire, passion or downright enjoyment of the moment which means a few missed chords and the odd bit of grandad dancing is easily forgiven. Given I thought it could have been a dialled in car crash of a set makes it all the more incredible. 50 years these boys have been at it and they can still turn that in? 50 fucking years!! Incredible! Oh and Keef's little kiss on Lisa Fischer's shoulder was matched only by the look on her face after he did it! Another magic moment of many! MichaelsBeard
Is anyone capable of burning this to DVD for me? Tried doing it last night but my laptop won't allow it. I'd cover any postage and send discs.
Wooderson
Fischer's role in that show can't be underestimated.
CaledonianGonzo
Nitpicking now, but the horn section could use a trumpet and a trombone player to give it a bit more heft. Bobby Keys isn't quite the player he once was - and even then he's always been a scrappy pugilist of a sax-player rather than a virtuoso - but I'd still rather it was him up there than anyone else. Perfect for the Stones so. He sounds dirty. Speaking of dirty, Richards opening riff to Midnight Rambler sounded like pure filth. Vulgar stuff. Beautiful. Jack Nottm
Just going back to people mentioning the arctics. They had effects on the screen rather than for viewing. A four way split, small coverage of each band member usually in black and white or some brown color. As a reasonably big fan it was a good performance ( as always with the monkeys bar a few shows ) but nothing special. Set list was very safe. Wish id have gone portishead now to be honest. The Stones however where fantastic. We were no way near the front but i had a great time.
Mud Dweller
If you want a chuckle have a read at some of the early comments in this thread once they had agreed to play. Everyone (me included) thought it would be a shambles - how wrong were we Edited July 12, 2013 by Mud Dweller

Paula-C
Downloading now, can't blooming wait to watch it! Its just a fluke, but this leak will cement more of the qualities of this show for posterity. Hearing the crowd laugh knowingly at the lyrics to "Glastonbury Girl"... fantastic stuff. I will now only pronounce Shangri-laaaaaa with a Jagger accent.

I suppose it could have been good if you were down the front though Yeh I havent read any bad reviews about the arctics, just that it was standard decent show. I'll keep quiet about the portishead gig..............
The Nal
If you want a chuckle have a read at some of the early comments in this thread once they had agreed to play. Everyone (me included) thought it would be a shambles - how wrong were we Yes indeed. Thing about the Stones is, you get the impression they're perfectly capable of producing greatness. the new song is pretty good. They just don;t seem to be arsed. They better have choppers on standby near the Pyramid from people passing out laughing during the Stones. Those 4 lads - Watts included - are absolute HAMS. Four blues and money obsessed toffs. Say what you like about Beyonce or even JayZ. They made an effort. The Stones couldnt give a shite about Glastonbury. Never have done. I don't get the Stones thing at all. Who is buying tickets at that price ? I saw them in '86 and they were pretty much washed up then. 25 years later and they're still flogging the same old horse, it's incredible really. I really think we're overegging the appeal of the festival on here. Its a Glasto forum so its fair enough but its clear from previous marquee headliners that they really don't know/don't give a shit about the festival. Not as much as us lot anyway. The Stones are busy negotiating a £150m+ world tour. Their 200k Glasto appearance fee is way down the list it seems. Just watching them on the Sandy relief gig here. They're shite. So it looks like nearly everybody now accepts that The Stones are a total comedy number now? Reputation aside, are they good enough to headline? I don't think so. Never so happy to have been so hopelessly wrong. Edited July 12, 2013 by The Nal

Guest
Anyone else notice how Keith appears to be in some pain right at the end just before they go back stage. He puts his arm across his chest as if he's had a twinge or something. Maybe I'm misinterpreting his actions.
ThomThomDrum
Yeh I havent read any bad reviews about the arctics, just that it was standard decent show. Guy standing beside me at Portishead joined the crowd late. He told me he was at the Arctics and had to leave......said they were that rubbish. I'll keep quiet about the portishead gig.............. MEGABOWL
It's even great on video. I'm sure the Stones have their commercial reasons but they should have let it go out in full. Would have been talk of the town (even more so than they were)
