Jack Nottm
It was the opening that really got me into thinking this is going to be good. To start with those 4 songs was just wow. By the first riff of paint it black i was loving it and then gimme shelter after. I cant think of another band that would open with 4 songs so strong. russycarps
anyone seen the paul mccartney bonnaroo set list? Holy fucking shit. Better than the 2004 glasto set for sure.
jimmyt
Isn't it great how this thread has turned into a love-in like the Chic thread?! Every post I read in this thread at the moment makes me grin from ear to ear. It really was that great and that sentiment really is universal amongst everyone that was there. Must've been a perfect Glasto gig, then.
jimmyt
ugh that does sound annoying, no need for that. I suppose it could have been good if you were down the front though Yeh I havent read any bad reviews about the arctics, just that it was standard decent show. I'll keep quiet about the portishead gig.............. Listening to the bootleg of it, I think it sounds pretty good. "Mardy Bum" in particular sounds a little magical, almost moment-like, but then I guess that's what happens when you let Guy Garvey rearrange and orchestrate an already beautifully written song. jimmyt
Disagree I think the setlist looks fantastic and three hours is a value-for-money effort but I just know it wasn't as good as it was 9 years ago on Worthy Farm. It couldn't have been.
russycarps
Disagree We got penny lane granted all things must pass was nice, but I'd have taken something as a tribute to George over that Don't get me wrong though, Macca on the pyramid was nothing short of sensational

But Jim is right, he hit a rare vein of form on that tour which was basically designed to prep for Glasters. Current set is a lot more obscure that the GF '04 setlist. I'd give up a bollik to be at his Outside Lands show next month!!

I don't think for one second that the gig came anything close to 2004! Maccas gig was MILES more important to me than the stones. A Beatle at Glastonbury. How lucky are we to have been there for that??
Guest
Didn't I read somewhere that George Harrison asked to play the festival a couple of years before he died? It was very late in the day and Michael couldn't find a suitable place for him. That would have been a 'must see' performance as well. CaledonianGonzo
Aye - never seeing Beatle George live is something to be cheesed off about - though I suppose it's not like gigs were ten a penny.
Wooderson
Would be v surprised if Mick Eavis couldn't squeeze Georgie in somewhere FFS.
jimmyt
I think the amazing thing with Glasto is how many seemingly obvious bookings never got made. George Harrison should have been all over the site and on the Pyramid with Hare Krishna backing dancers and vocalists; without wanting to provoke Wooderson too much, the fact that The Dead never played is ridiculous; that Floyd never made it is incredulous, particularly given this http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/oct/07/pink.floyd.keyboardist.denied.last.wish . I wouldn't have relegated Kings of Leon for them, either. I'd have cancelled them. It does show that they have genuinely not been able to fit huge acts in at times, though. That pink Floyd thing is the most tragic thing in the festivals history. You can see eavis's point, but what a missed opportunity. amazing

How lucky are we to have been there for that?? Luckily, you don't have to choose. We're still fortunate to be able to see either artist. Instead of picking holes in what they do now we should enjoy them while they are still here. Whose arsed if Keith Richards plays one bum note a song?! The Blackburn Rover
Where'd you get the pic? Just did a quick seach on Google images for decent copy. I have my own canvas printing business, so had it printed, framed & up on the wall by the Tues after Glasto

People think we're all mad to build our thoughts, hopes and dreams around these mere 'pop stars'... But you're so right Cally. In the blink of an eye they will be gone. I'm so proud to say I was there two weeks ago. An iconic gig. Only the 4th or 5th I've ever attended from hundreds of shows and dozens of festivals. Defiantly this, after Primal Scream went off I felt like I was involved in a moment of history for sure. The size of the crowd, the anticipation before hand and the excitement when we realized that they were in it to pull a blinder...
