SoLoCo
So what are everybody's thoughts on Black Sabbath potentially headlining next year? Personally, I think a booking like Sabbath would be a huge curveball booking, but I am not entirely sure how it would go down with the normal Reading/Leeds crowd. metallimuse
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong,I think it would be an amazing booking but it would mean I would have to go and o can't afford it.
2rare2die
I think they'd be a great booking, and one that would hopefully bring back a few of the heavier bands to the festival. Be interesting to see what sort of a crowd they get if they are booked, but i think they could pull it off personally.

kaosmark2
I think, particularly combined with The Cure last year, it's a sign that they're looking to make a steady shift back to an audience they've been losing. I'm really pleased about it. It's not desperately tempting me to go, I saw them at DL last year and they were good but not spectacular. Good news though as it makes me believe the lineup overall might have a bit more about it. That said, The Cure day last year was fucking awful. huntyyy
Given that Download and Reading are effectively owned by the same people, it wouldn't surprise me much. It'd be a way for them to kick sonisphere out of the market. Bring some heavier bands to Reading like Sabbath main stage one day and Deftones headlining second another day, to draw the weekenders. Then Sonisphere may come across as the third best lineup and again, sell badly. Just a theory though.
leey
Anyone who is a huge sabbath fan would have seen them at DL last year, but the band would still be charging extortionate fees, which is going to have an effect on the rest of the lineup. Also, to attract the younger crowd it is likely the rest of the lineup will be more pop/indie based to compensate for such an irrelevant headliner. DL50
There will be an indie band for the younger people headlining the tent to counter, i think the XX, maybe Noah and The Whale
Vieuphoria
Not headliners.... Sub at most.

VCK
Wow, didn't see that coming! Would they get a 2 hour slot or 1 hour 30? And would they close Reading or would it be Blur? Reckon Soundgarden would be a perfect sub for them! If it is true I hope there's no moaning on here about a lack of TEH METTULZ!!!11 Not headliners.... Sub at most. insideaway
Soundgarden subbed Sabbath at download so don't see it happen at Reading, likely to be QOTSA or Biffy or someone else.

insideaway
Don't see why that would rule it out, Noel Gallagher seemed to sub The Stone Roses everywhere this summer. Those two would be a perfect fit.
alex28
I think Sabbath would be a good booking for Reading especially if they had blur as well. Although after seeing them at download I wouldn't be too fussed.
VCK
Think that may of been a condition of getting the roses tbh. Don't think Leeds would want the top 2 together to be something that was seen at a major fest the year before. Also i don't think Soundgarden would get a sub set, think they would headline the tent if booked.
SOAD
Difference between last year and a couple of years.. a small difference but Download 2012 will still be very fresh in the minds of people when Reading 2013 is announced... it'll just look lazy if they do the same booking... plus Soundgarden into Black Sabbath is a much smaller booking at Reading than it was at Download (Download is more their demographic... first UK show of Soundgarden reunion tour... pretty much the first show of Black Sabbath's return and pretty much their first in the UK for ages) Edited October 20, 2012 by SOAD
Black_Crow
This rumour came out of nowhere and the only place it seems to be appearing is here. It seems very random and I'm not sure whether to believe it or not.

JamesT977
Would Black Sabbath want to be shown on the tv those because most headliners that I am aware of usually get shown on bbc from reading and Leeds?

SoLoCo
Though I imagine it will bring some of the metal crowd back to Reading, it will really depend on the undercard. Also, as much as we would all love to see it, would a metal day really be a good idea for Rn'L now? The UK have Download and Sonisphere already, it would have to be one hell of a line up to want people to return.
