Mouseboy11
Highlights were shown weren't they? I can remember seeing at least 30 minutes on TV.

joshi
Not my cup of tea but would make an interesting headliner, as long as someone like the xx headlined the nme I wouldnt mind a smashing pumpkins/pixes co-headline night would have to be my dream night so far,
SoLoCo
Smashing Pumpkins are one of my favourite bands ever, but I can't see them playing anything higher then a sub headline slot now.

rexclark
I'd quite like to see them but it's a very lazy booking. I know it's not easy but I'd rather they went for someone different rather than just picking acts who headlined elsewhere the year before. Role Model
Staggered by this rumour, didn't see it coming, don't really get it. Doesn't make much sense for the current Reading festival audience, but then after The Cure last year, I guess this makes a lot more sense. It's lazy, but at least it's a bit different I suppose. mrtourette
Wow, didn't see that coming! Would they get a 2 hour slot or 1 hour 30? And would they close Reading or would it be Blur?
mrtourette
Neil knows his stuff, and if he believes that they are likely to play then so do I. Sites like v.i.r.t.u.a.l.f.e.s.t.i.v.a.l.s copy rumours off here anyway so it's irrelevant what other sites are saying. The Cure came out of nowhere and nobody else predicted it except efests and look what happened.
allan14
Headliners dont have to be filmed, they get the chance to request not to be filmed. I think i read somewhere Paramore asked not to be filmed this year. I know they didnt headline but thye subs normally get filmed as well. LondonTom
... Interesting choice! Would been more interesting if it was this year instead of copying other festivals once again.

mrtourette
As great as this site is; you're pretty far off the mark with this one. They were by far the headliner that Neil had the least certain info about. I seem to remember him saying they were 98% certain not to headline about a week before the lineup release so I'm not sure what you're talking about. eFestivals
This rumour came out of nowhere and the only place it seems to be appearing is here. It seems very random and I'm not sure whether to believe it or not. the reason why it's only here is because, like most of the stuff that gets more-strongly rumoured here, it's from out own sources and not something we've nicked from another website. Like every rumour we list I can't guarantee it's accuracy. However, I believe this one to be extremely well sourced and I'll be very surprised if there's not something to it. Just so it's clear, the "something to it" is that they're in discussions with R/L, and not that they'll necessarily play as a result of those discussions (tho I'd guess it's likely that they will, if it fits the bands plans). I seem to remember him saying they were 98% certain not to headline about a week before the lineup release so I'm not sure what you're talking about. I was saying that The Cure were going to headline as far back as January (just through logical thought) but no-one had any true evidence until just before the lineup was released. there's no way I'd claim The Cure for last year as 'mine' - there were plenty of people saying they thought they'd headline. There's even some folks who claim they knew for certain before xmas. But all the same efests was still the only major or festie website which stated with certainty that they'd be headlining prior to them being announced (and once efests said it, everyone else took it as gospel). If I remember rightly it was on the Thursday before the announcement I said they were headlining ... but it was something that I'd known for a while longer than that. mrtourette
The news story annoucing the headliners was put up on March 1st, and the official announcemnt was March 12th.
Black_Crow
It's the same with Sabbath, they've heard that they're in talks so have raised them as a strong possibility. Either they'll hear that they've signed and move them to TBC or they'll hear that they've turned it down and move them off the line-up page. If it's the latter it doesn't mean that they were 'wrong' about Sabbath, just that the info they have has been updated and the situation has changed accordingly. They could have kept that info to themselves and not put anything about them anywhere. Edited October 22, 2012 by Black_Crow
mrtourette
By that logic, e.fests are never wrong. Sorry but I could apply the same thought process to every single band in Europe next Summer, they're in talks, oh look they didn't get announced, they must have pulled out. Black_Crow
Get your head around the R/SR/TBC system - if efests say a band is TBC and they don't play then they're wrong. If they have them as R or SR or post about them in a thread then there's no commitment there, just some interesting information that may or may not go anywhere. lharris92
lets all talk about pearl jam cause apparently their tour dates didn't match for download (implies touring at another point in the year) maybe then we can get them rumoured! i kid but for real kind of excited cause if this rumour comes true it could show a swing in direction for r&l depending on the rest of the line up (about sabbath of course ) Edited October 22, 2012 by lharris92
