When the Vodafone email happened I was amazingly excited. Pearl Jam are one of, if not my favourite band & it was the icing on the cake. Once I'd got over the initial disappointment I'm extremely happy with this years headliners -

Slipknot - In the top 5 biggest metal bands in the world right now. Will their performance top 2009? Probably not, but then again few bands will. It was a truly great set, if they put on 70% of 2009 we're in for a great show.

Iron Maiden - Not a big Maiden fan but perfect for a festival. This 'Maiden England' set is made for the casual fan, it's practically a greatest hits set which is just what I want. I know most of the songs already & little homework is required. Never seen Maiden before so that's an added bonus.

Rammstein - Again, not the biggest fan on record but their constant accolades of 'Best Live Band' can't be by coincidence, after several days of heavy drinking seeing the epitome of mental live shows will be the perfect send off.

2nd stage finishing before Maiden - Not bothered, there's no clash so people get to see both bands. If that means we lose 'Johnny Noname & the who-cares' who would've played at 11am I'm not fussed, it's happened before & as the circle of 'Uber Headliners' like Maiden, Metallica, AC/DC & Co narrows we can expect to see them increasing their demands.

I'm more interested in how the undercard will play out. 3 'Metal' headliners yet this year saw the majority of the metal undercard big hitters play Donington. Machine Head, LoG, Megadeth, Anthrax, Trivium, Killswitch et al. Who's left next year for a fitting undercard? Will Sunday be an 'alt-rock' day as Rammstein could probably fall under that banner.

Foos were one of the bands almost booked for DL 2008 were they not? but then they dropped out/changed their minds and did their own shows along with 2 others (RATM/Rammstein? cannae mind) hence why he had to go back to Kiss who he'd already turned down and bump up Lostprophets and TheOffspring. So they had been runoured.
